Maag on the Move

Nicco Maag
Nicco Maag

Nicco Maag arrived a little late today, but once he got here he continued to add to his stack gradually through the first two levels. He just grabbed an extra chunk of chips here at the start of Level 27 to push up close to the 8 million-chip mark and into the chip lead.

After Danny Wong opened from middle position, Magg called from a seat over, and Robert Corcione called from the big blind, the pot was about 400,000 when the flop came {Q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. Corcione checked, Wong made a continuation bet, and both of his opponents called. By then the pot size was about 1 million.

The turn brought the {5-Diamonds}. Corcione checked, and Wong fired a bet of 700,000. Maag then raised to 2 million even. After some thought, Corcione pushed his hand away, and eventually Wong did as well.

Malherbe Doubles Through Holden

Sam Holden opened for 120,000 and then called an all-in shove from Jean Malherbe to 1.485 million total.

Showdown

Malherbe{A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Holden{K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

Holden didn't look thrilled, and rightfully so as he was way behind. The board ran out a lackluster {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{A-Spades} and Malherbe doubled through last year's November Niner.

Heitmann Climbing

Taylor Paur raised from the hijack seat and got one caller from Jan Heitmann in the big blind. The flop came {6-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. Heitmann checked, Paur bet 110,000, and Heitmann called. The turn was the {Q-Diamonds}, and the pair went through a similar routine, with Heitmann check-calling a 255,000 bet this time. Both then checked the {3-Clubs} river.

Heitmann showed {7-Hearts}{6-Spades} for sixes and queens and Paur mucked.

Merson Takes From van Alphen

Action folded around to Niels van Alphen in the small blind and he raised to 130,000, which Greg Merson called from the big. The {5-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop saw Merson call a bet of 180,000, and the dealer burned and turned the {10-Diamonds}.

Again Merson called a bet from van Alphen, this time 350,000, before the latter checked the {8-Hearts} river. Merson thought for a solid minute before moving all in, and van Alphen conceded the hand.

Another Mistake for Koroknai Results In One-Round Penalty

Andras Koroknai (Day 4)
Andras Koroknai (Day 4)

From under the gun, Andras Koroknai raised to an unknown amount and Fabrizio Gonzalez reraised from the next seat to 305,000. Play folded back to Koroknai and he moved all in for approximately 2.4 million. According to Paul Volpe, Gonzalez asked for a count, but Koroknai thought he said call and turned his hand over to reveal the {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. The floor was called and it was ruled that Koroknai would be given a one-round penalty. Gonzalez folded his hand.

This is the second big mistake Koroknai has made deep in the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event. Yesterday, he missed action in front of him and moved all in when he didn't see Gaelle Baumann raise before mucking his hand before she had acted. No penalty was given then. This time around, he'll have to sit out for the next orbit.

David Kluchman Eliminated in 63rd Place ($128,384)

David Kluchman (Day 5) eliminated
David Kluchman (Day 5) eliminated

David Kluchman open-shoved his last 325,000 from middle position, and the action folded to Tristan Clemencon, who quickly called out of the big blind.

"Have you looked yet?" Kluchman asked.

"No," Clemencon answered.

Kluchman showed {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Clemencon took one card in each hand and turned them over individually. With his right hand, he turned over the {q-Clubs}, with his left hand, he turned over the {q-Spades}.

"Oh my god!" Clemencon exclaimed.

The flop fell {8-Spades}{10-Hearts}{a-Hearts}, giving Kluchman a flush draw.

"Queen of hearts," he told the dealer.

The turn was another ace - the {a-Clubs}.

"No queen of hearts," Kluchman said, grinning.

The {9-Clubs} completed the board, and ended Kluchman's Main Event run, while Clemencon is flirting with 4 million chips.
