This Isn't Stud Hi-Low

Andy Bloch
Andy Bloch

Andy Bloch just picked up some chips against an opponent who called him all the way until sixth street before folding his hand and he's now up to 13,000.

Bloch: (x)(x) / {A-Spades}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}
Opponent: (x)(x) / {4-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs} - fold

Bloch's opponent was the bring-in and Bloch completed from the next seat before everyone else folded back around to the player with the {4-Hearts}. He called and then called Bloch's bets on fourth and fifth street. After the player called on fifth street, Bloch said, "We're not playing hi-low Stud." Then finally on sixth street his opponent gave it up and Bloch won the pot.

Trips For Tryba

Earlier we reported that Chris Tryba had left the tournament but apparently he had just been very quiet and we missed him.

Tryba: (x)(x) / {J-Clubs} / {J-Spades} / {Q-Diamonds} / {5-Diamonds} / (x)
Kessler: (x)(x) / {3-Clubs} - fold
Opponent: (x)(x) / {9-Spades} / {8-Diamonds} / {K-Spades} / {K-Diamonds} / (x)

Tryba completed the action on third street, Kessler raised, the third player re raised and Tryba called. That was too much for Kessler who folded. On fourth street Tryba caught a pair and kept betting, his opponent called. On fifth we saw the saw process repeat itself and on seventh Tryba bet again. This time his opponent raised and Tryba decided to move all in. His opponent called and showed {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} but that wasn't enough against the {J-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Hearts} Tryba was holding. He doubled up and is back in the game.

Soulier Going Strong

We just caught the end of a hand between Humberto Brenes and reigning $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Champion Fabrice Soulier. Soulier came out on top and it fairing very well in today.

Soulier: (x)(x) / {9-Clubs} / {A-Spades} / {5-Clubs} / {7-Hearts} / (x)
Brenes: (x)(x) / {3-Hearts} / {7-Diamonds} / {Q-Hearts} / {7-Clubs} / (x)

On sixth street Soulier threw out a bet and Brenes made the call. On seventh both players didn't want to invest any chips and checked it down. Soulier showed {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a pair of aces and took down the pot.

Kessler Doubles to Stay Alive

Allen Kessler just found a way to double up and he's still in this thing with just over 90 minutes left in the day.

Allen Kessler: (x)(x) / {8-Spades} / {8-Spades} / {Q-Spades} / {8-Clubs} / {K-Clubs} / (x)
Opponent: (x)(x) / {5-Diamonds} / {4-Diamonds} / {6-Clubs} / {A-Hearts} / (x)

Allen Kessler just completed and his opponent called. On fourth street Kessler put out a bet and his opponent called again. Kessler only had 300 chips left behind and moved all in on fifth street. His opponent called and the cards got turned up. Kessler showed {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Hearts} and beat {K-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} to stay alive in the tournament.

A Doubling Party

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Both Daniel Idema and Chris Amaral were the beneficiary of double ups straight out the last break. Idema doubled through Kevin Calenzo after hitting aces and jacks for a winning two pair. He was behind going into seventh street, but snatched up his second pair on the end to double back to 9,200 in chips. Calenzo was left with 3,500.

On another table, Amaral was all in and behind his opponent's pair of jacks, but nailed a fifth diamond on seventh street to make a flush and double back to 3,500. "Here comes the uptick," said Amaral with a smile and a thumbs up.

There Will Be a New Champ

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Last year Eugene Katchalov took down this tournament and a $122,909 first-place prize. This year the Ukrainian American won't be back with the gold in this one since he decided not to participate. Katchalov is playing the $5,000 Mixed-Max tournament that started today at noon and as of right now he is still competing. This means we will crown a new champion Saturday night.

We are down to 176 players at the moment with the average stack being 9,384.
