Hawkins Doubles

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

We just caught a huge double up for Maurice Hawkins as he's now over the 200,000 chip mark.

On a board of {K-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{8-Hearts}, the player first to act checked to Hawkins who made a bet of 24,000. Action was back on the first player who moved all in with a covering stack. Hawkins immediately called and showed his {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. The other player showed {A-}{A-} and Hawkins just needed to fade an {A-} on the river to double up. He did just that when the dealer burned and turned over the {4-Spades} and after that double he's sitting pretty with chips aplenty.

Diaz Eliminated

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

David Diaz moved all in from middle position with his last 29,500. Janette Zawacki, who happens to be our last woman in the field called from the cutoff. Diaz's {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} was behind to Zawacki's {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}. The board came {4-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{10-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and Zawacki's set eliminates Diaz from the tournament.

Erick Lindgren (from Day 1)

Action folded to the button who moved all in for his final 25,000 with {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. Eric Lindgren was contemplating the call and eventually did with {q-Spades}{3-Spades}. The board fell {j-Spades}{q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Lindgren is pushed some much needed chips.

Kubat Whacks Keating

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Patrick Kubat can't be stopped. We just saw him take a monster pot off former chip leader Alan Keating.

On a flop of {A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} Kubat made a bet of 50,000. Keating took a few seconds, then made the call.

The turn was the {10-Hearts}. This time Kubat made a bet of 100,000. Keating counted out the chips for the call and almost made it, but was missing 25,000. He counted out the rest of the call and made it.

The river was the {4-Clubs} and this time Kubat moved all in with a covering stack. Keating made a quick fold and Kubat scooped up a monster pot.

Curnow Busts One

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

A player in middle position raised to 11,500. Grant Curnow, 2nd in chips coming into today, reraised from the big blind by throwing in a large stack of orange. We didn't get an exact count because the middle position player quickly went all in followed by the instacall of Curnow.

Curnow: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Middle Position: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Hearts}{9-Spades}{5-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Curnow is building his stack back up.

Kassela Busts Before Dinner Break

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Frank Kassela
Frank Kassela

It was a cold day for Frank Kassela who was put in tough spots all afternoon. We heard him talking about how at one point he ran {A-}{K-} into {A-}{A-}.

We do know that he is gone right now. Chris Hunichen was kind enough to let us know that Kassela shoved his last five big blinds all in with {Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and he was called by another player who had {K-}{K-}. Kassela couldn't catch up and he was sent to the payout desk to collect his payday.
