Jason Mercier Finds Victory
Jason Mercier Finds Victory

Jason Mercier has advanced to the final 32 players.

With about 67,000 behind, Mercier made it 12,000 from the button and Nestor Martinez called. The flop came {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-} and Martinez shipped all in. Mercier called with {Q-}{2-Clubs} and was ahead of Martinez's {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Martinez failed to improve and Mercier was able to double up.

On the next hand, Mercier and Martinez got it all in once again but this time it was for Martinez's tournament life. Mercier held {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} and was up against Martinez's {Q-}{10-}.

The board ran out {J-}{10-}{8-}{5-}{K-} and Mercier was able to clinch the victory.

Phahurat Will Return

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

AP Phahurat is the latest player to advance to the final 32. Phahurat, who has already had a stellar 2013 with a second place finish at the World Series of Poker Circuit Caesar's Palace Las Vegas Main Event and an 11th place finish in the EPT Berlin High Roller, is looking to go for a deep run in this heads up tournament and score his second cash at this summer's WSOP.

Phahurat defeated Johannes Strassmann in his third round match. On the final hand, Strassmann was all in before the flop holding {K-Spades}{J-Spades} and was looking healthy by dominating Phahurat's {K-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Phahurat paired up, however, as the flop brought {5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and vaulted him into the lead. The turn was the {A-Diamonds} and the river the {4-Diamonds}, ensuring that Phahurat's pair of sixes would hold as the best hand and earn him a spot among the final 32 runners.
