Cunningham Chipping Up

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Allen Cunningham has been thriving since we last checked in with him. In a recent hand, after a player raised to 350 pre-flop, Cunningham three-bet to 1,075 from the small blind. His opponent called, and Cunningham bet out 1,200 when the dealer spread the {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. His opponent folded, and Cunningham is now up to 21,000.

Preflop Action Aplenty at Table 56

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Preflop action seems to be the way at table 56 that seats Joseph Cheong, Jonathan Aguiar, and Michael Mizrachi.

On one of the the first hands back from break Cheong opened to 400 from under the gun, he was called by Mizrachi on the button. From the small blind Aguiar made it 1,425 to go and both players folded. Mizrachi open mucked his {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

On the very next hand, Action folded to Aguiar on the button. He opened to 300 and was called by the small blind before Cheong made it 1,000 from the big blind.

Aguiar and the small blind folded and Cheong picked up the pot.

Lots of Chips for Back to Back Flack

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Just before the break, on a board of {q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{10-}{9-} Layne Flack was faced with a bet of about 1,500 from his opponent. Flack fell into the tank before finally turning his {A-}{J-} face up and saying, "I guess we're probably chopping," and mucking.

Either way Flack already has a lot of chips here on day one.

Liu Catches Balsiger Stealing

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Before the break, Xuan Liu and Jake Balsiger got involved in an all-in confrontation.

Balsiger raised to 225 pre-flop, Liu called from the button, and the big blind also called. The flop came {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, and Balsiger continued for 300. Liu called, but the big blind folded, and the players saw the turn heads-up. The dealer turned the {7-Clubs}, and Balsiger again led out, this time for 1,000. Liu again called, bringing the {2-Diamonds} on the river. Balsiger pushed all his chips in the middle and Liu, who held fewer chips and her opponent, went into the tank.

As Liu was thinking, Dan O'Brien and Phil Ivey started discussing their bags of nuts and trail mix, sliding the bags of food across the table in front of Liu while she considered her decision. If the nuts moving across table were distracting in any way, Liu never let on, and she eventually decided to call. It turned out to be a good read, as Balsiger showed {k-}{10-} for now pair, and Liu turned over {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for top pair.

Liu doubled up and now sits with 8,500, while Balsiger is down to 1,300.

"That's the Nutterballs."

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

One of the more lively tables in the room is that of David Williams and Eddy Sabat. Laughs and jokes can be heard coming from their table, but that being said there is still some serious poker being played there.

In one hand we caught David Williams raised to 250 from the small blind. He was called by Naoya Kihara in the big.

On the flop of {Q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Hearts} Williams bet 225 and Kihara called. The turn was the {3-Spades} and Williams made another bet of 600 which Kihara called.

The river was the {A-Hearts} and both players checked.

Williams showed {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} which left Kihara befuddled. He took a long look at the hand before Eddy Sabat finally said, "That's the nutterballs."

"Nope, there's a flush," Williams said after Kihara finally mucked.

"There's a flush?" Sabat asked laughing. "Are my eyes actually that bad?"

"I think there was even a straight flush," the dealer said as he was washing the deck.

Either way, looks like this will be a fun table to watch and listen to throughout the day.

Snowmen for Jaka

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Faraz Jaka raised to 225 on the button, and the big blind was the only caller. The flop was {6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{q-Spades} and action was checked to Jaka, who continued for 125. His opponent called, then checked again when the {q-Clubs} paired the board on the turn. Jaka bet out again, this time for 325, and his opponent again called. The river was the {9-Diamonds}, and this time Jaka bet 750. His opponent thought for a minute, then elected to call. Jaka turned over {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}, and his opponent mucked. Jaka pulled in the pot and now sits 10,000 in front of him.

Ivey Joins The Room, Creates Table of Death

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Six-Max tournaments are notorious for having some of the toughest tables of the entire series. Ivey has just joined a table here in the Brasilia room, creating one of the tougher tables in the field so far. At the table is Xuan Liu, Dan O'Brien, and Jake Balsiger, coupled with two of the unluckiest players in the Brasilia room.

On one of the first hands after Ivey sat, he raised to 200 from under the gun. On the button Jake Balsiger raised to 500. Action folded back to Ivey who gave Balsiger a classic Ivey stare before mucking his hand.
