We walked into a hand just as two players were all-in, Michael Gagliano and Kurt Jewell. Gagliano went in for his last 27,800 with , and Jewell called with .
The board came , which was good for a double up that brings Gagliano's chip count to around 55,000 in chips.
When we came up three hands were flipped. We knew for sure one was Max Steinberg. He had two opponents covered and all in preflop. The hands were:
Max Steinberg:
Opponent 1:
Opponent 2:
The flop came . That gave each opponent a little something with Steinberg in the lead with his pair of jacks. The turn gave even more sweat with the . The river was the and all the draws missed giving Steinberg the best hand with a pair of jacks.
Steinberg got the double knockout and skyrocketed to 93,500.
On the Friday edition of the PokerNews Podcast, the crew breaks down the latest news from the World Series of Poker, including David Diaz being banned from Caesars properties, Martin Finger winning his first gold bracelet, Matthew Ashton approaching another final table, and an update from the Ivey and the Misfits fantasy team. They then talk with Jay Rosenkrantz about the premiere of Bet Raise Fold: The Story of Online Poker.
On a flop we saw Brock Parker push all in for 8,075. Barry "Big Dog" Lang made the call and Mike Watson, after some thinking, folded his button. Parker showed for two pair, while Lang tabled for top pair and an open ended. The was not good enough and neither was the on the river for Lang. Parker doubled, Lang lost some and in the meantime Watson is the biggest stack at the table.
We plan on seeing David "Doc" Sands and Calvin Anderson mixing it up against one another today as they are sitting at the same table. The first encounter that we witnessed was a hand already on the flop.
The flop read and Sands had already checked. Anderson bet out 1,350 and Sands called.
The turn came the and again was the same, check by Sands, bet of 2,250 by Anderson, and a call by Sands.
The river brought a fourth club with the and Sands checked again. This time the bet from Anderson was larger as he came out with 6,750. Sands called in a heartbeat. Anderson was happy to flip over his nut flush.
Sands mucked and went down to 23,500, while Anderson went up to 92,000.
Daniel Buzgon raised to 1,300 in the cutoff, Martin Staszko three-bet to 3,500 on his direct left, and Niccolo Caramatti moved all in for 8,250 in the small blind. Buzgon re-shoved for around 39,000, and Staszko tanked for nearly two minutes before calling.
Buzgon:
Staszko:
Caramatti:
Caramatti was in bad shape, and Buzgon and Staszko chopped him up when the board came .
There have been several other eliminations, including Ludovic Lacay, Erik Seidel, Max Heinzelmann, Mike Leah, Jeff Gross, and John Eames.
Eddy Sabat told us he had opened the button to 1,500 and saw Mike Watson three bet from the button to 3,800. Sabat had shoved for 24,000 effectively and Watson had called. Sabat flopped good with his since an ace popped up. Watson and his pocket eights would win though as an eight turned up on the turn.
That set Sabat back to 10,725 which he pushed all in a bit later. Barry "Big Dog" Lang, who started the day as the chipleader, opened preflop to 2,000 from the cut off. On the button Sabat pushed his stack to the middle. After both blinds folded, Lang made the call, showing . Sabat tabled and would win the hand to double up: | | .
