"That Wasn't in the Range I Put Him On"

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

The popular $1,500 no-limit holdem events with massive fields attract all sorts of players with a wide variety of playing styles. Greg Raymer, 2004 Main Event Champion, recently told us about an interesting hand at his table which he called "an example hand from a $1,500 No-Limit."

Lazaro Hernandez raised to 225 preflop, and the small blind three-bet to 775. Hernandez called, and the flop came {a-}{6-}{4-} rainbow. The small blind bet enough to put Hernandez all in, about 1,800, and Hernandez snap-called with {a-}{j-}. The small blind showed {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and did not improve. Raymer, who was present at the table but not directly involved in the hand, perhaps put it best when he said, "That wasn't it the range I put him on."
