Diamonds for Goldman Mean Double

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

We picked up the action on the flop, with Sorel Mizzi playing from the cutoff and Lee Goldman from the small blind.

The flop had come {K-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, and after Goldman checked, Mizzi bet 17,500. Goldman came back with a raise to 42,000, to which Mizzi responded with a pot-sized reraise and Goldman called all in for 142,000 total.

Goldman: {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts} — nut flush draw, gutshot straight draw
Mizzi: {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} — top two pair

The turn brought the {Q-Diamonds}, completing Goldman's flush, and after the {3-Hearts} fell on fifth street Goldman had doubled to survive.

Shaun Sunk in 26th

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante
Shaun Deeb
Shaun Deeb

Shortly after Freddy Deeb's departure, it was Shaun Deeb getting involved in a hand with Joseph Leung that saw them reach a {Q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop. Leung checked from the small blind, Deeb bet 19,000, Leung check-raised to 88,500, Deeb pushed all in, and Leung called with the 205,000 total he had.

Deeb had {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{6-Spades} for top-and-bottom two pair while Leung {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for a set of nines. The turn was the {8-Clubs} and river the {9-Spades}, and Leung ended with quads to knock Deeb back down to less than 40,000.

Leung would claim the rest of Deeb's stack shortly thereafter to send him out in 26th place.

Freddy Felted in 27th

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

With both Freddy Deeb and Shaun Deeb still among the final 27, ideas of a Deeb-Deeb heads-up match to conclude Event #41 had begun to occur to us. Alas, the Deeb-vs.-Deeb dream is dead, as Freddy has been eliminated at the start of Level 17.

Freddy's final hand saw Gary Bolden opening for 20,000 from the button, then Deeb pushing all in for 62,000 from the small blind and getting called by Bolden. Bolden had {J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} while Deeb showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{J-Spades}{7-Hearts}. The board then ran out {Q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} to give Bolden a straight and end Deeb's run in 27th.

Just one Deeb left — Shaun — but it appears he's now become short-stacked, too. (More to come.)

Bohlman, Pickering Hit Rail

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Scott Bohlman
Scott Bohlman

As the level came to a close Scott Bohlman was eliminated in 29th place, and Jamie Pickering soon followed him to the rail in 28th.

Pickering's last hand began with Freddy Deeb raising to 10,000 from the cutoff seat, then Joseph Leung reraised to 36,000 from the button. Pickering called all in for his last 28,000 from the big blind, and Deeb called as well.

Deeb and Leung checked the {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop. The {K-Clubs} then fell on the turn and Deeb checked, Leung pushed all in, and Deeb folded.

Leung had {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{2-Clubs} for trip kings and Pickering {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. Pickering was looking for a saving seven, but the river brought the {6-Hearts} and he was eliminated.

Houston, Charalambous, Bevand Out

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Manuel Bevand
Manuel Bevand

Roland Israelshivili opened from the cutoff for 10,000, then a short-stacked Jay Houston pushed all in for 22,000 from the button. The blinds got out and Israelshivili called, turning over {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. Meanwhile, Houston was hoping his {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} to improve to something better than Israelshivili's hand.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, and suddenly the two kings in Israelshivili's hand became the least important cards as he'd made a straight with his two kickers. The turn was the {10-Spades} and river the {A-Spades}, and Houston was out in 32nd.

Peter Charalambous soon followed in 31st, with Manuel Bevand getting knocked out in 30th just a moment later.

"Tell them you're playing with Freddy Deeb."

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Freddy Deeb
Freddy Deeb

Jonathan Poche opened for 9,000 from the button and got two callers from the blinds — Freddy Deeb (SB) and Victor Shuchleis (BB). All three checked the {2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{A-Clubs} flop, but the {6-Spades} on the turn would invite more response from the trio.

First Deeb checked, then Shuchleis bet 15,000 and Poche called. The action back on Deeb, he raised all in for 61,000, and Shuchleis responded with a reraise all in himself which was enough to force Poche to the side.

Deeb showed {A-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for aces and deuces and a straight draw, while Shuchleis turned over {J-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for a set of sixes. The river then brought the {3-Spades} and an expression of delight from Deeb as he had survived with a straight.

Shuchleis has apparently been tweeting some of the hands he's been playing, and Deeb told him to be sure to tweet this one, too.

"Tell them you're playing with Freddy Deeb," he said with a grin. "They'll love it!"

Mizzi Moves in Front After Getting Giannetti

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Matt Giannetti
Matt Giannetti

Matt Giannetti limped from under the gun, then called a button raise to 18,000 from Sorel Mizzi. The flop came {Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and Giannetti checked. Mizzi bet 35,000, Giannetti raised all in for his last 42,000, and Mizzi called.

Giannetti had {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Mizzi {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}, meaning Gianneti's two pair had him momentarily in front. But the {K-Clubs} came on the turn to give Mizzi a flush, and after the {8-Diamonds} river Giannetti was out in 33rd.

With that one it appears start-of-day chip leader Mizzi has retaken first position with 32 players left.
