While No-Limit Hold'em has become the trendy variant during the last decade, old timers can remember when world championships were decided in Limit Hold'em events. Today, the World Series of Poker will harken back to those bygone days, as Event #48 ($2,500 Limit Hold'em) will test the player's patience, hand reading ability, and other fundamental aspects of proper poker.

Last year, this event was won by Ronnie Bardah, who captured his first gold bracelet and $182,088 in prize money for besting a field of 302 runners.

Today we expect Bardah to defend his title, while dozens of dangerous pros try to knock him off. Last year saw notable names like Carlos Mortensen, Andy Bloch, Michael Mizrachi, Annie Duke, Matt Hawrilenko, J.C. Tran, Shaun Deeb, Barry Greenstein, Eli Elezra, Daniel Negreanu, and Phil Ivey reach Day 2, and many of those familiar faces will be in attendance here today. In addition, hundreds of amateurs and recreational players will convene in the Rio's Brasilia Room to try their hand at the slower, yet systematic, game known as Limit Hold'em

Check out the PokerNews daily update video to whet your appetite for today's Limit Hold'em action, and then keep it right here throughout the day for continuous coverage live from the WSOP's famed tournament floor.

With the high roller extravaganza known as the Big One for One Drop being held just across the hall, the atmosphere here in the Brasilia Room is understandably a bit subdued by comparison.

The tournament has begun with those in attendance taking their first hands, while many tables are still awaiting the arrival of four or five players.

We will be sure to update you on the notable names and pros in attendance here today.

Fresh off of his recent gold bracelet win in another of the World Series of Poker's Limit Hold'em events, Michael Moore has been spotted in the house today.

Moore took home $211,743 for his win earlier in the summer, although it appears he kept a few dollars aside to keep chasing those coveted bracelets.

When asked if he planned on winning another piece of jewelry so soon, Moore could only laugh while responding "I'm certainly looking forward to it."

We will be sure to track Moore's progress as the day continues, as he seeks to push the limits and take down another Limit Hold'em title.

The Best of the Rest

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

With the prestigious $111,111 buy-in Big One for One Drop event beginning today, the poker world has understandably been fixated on that ultimate high-roller event.

Nonetheless, several of the games most accomplished pros have taken their seats here today, vying for a Limit Hold'em bracelet while most of their peers slug it out, or sweat the action, over in the Amazon Room.

Here are the notable names we've noticed so far, but with late registration still available, we expect to see many more pros turn up as the day progresses.

Relentless Rats

As opposed to the punctuated moments of pure excitment that have made No-Limit Hold'em the game of choice for the current generation, Limit Hold'em requires a steady hand, prolonged periods of patience, and a certain relentlessness in terms of betting.

Eric Froehlich demonstrated this fact on a recent hand, betting the flop on a {5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{7-Diamonds} board, and then firing a second barrel when the {3-Clubs} hit on the turn.

The continued aggression won "E-Fro" the pot, and he is off and running here in this marathon of a poker tournament.

We saw Maria Ho make it three bets before the flop, and two players came along to take a flop of {9-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

Ho led out for a bet, one opponent raised, and the third got out of the way. Ho flatted to see the {6-Diamonds} arrive on the turn, and she slowed down with a check.

After her opponent bet the turn, Ho called and the river came {j-Clubs}. The action repeated itself on fifth street, but Ho mucked her hand when she saw the {A-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} tabled by her opponent.
