Nguyen Wins, Wipes Out Wolansky

Level 17

Stud-8

Steven Wolansky has been eliminated in 24th place after losing most of his chips in a three-way hand involving Scotty Nguyen and Scott Abrams, then the rest in another hand involving the same two opponents.

The first hand saw the three get to fifth street at which point Abrams was leading and both Wolansky and Nguyen calling. Then on sixth Abrams led again, Wolansky raised, and both Nguyen and Abrams called.

The pot was big, and the boards looked as follows:

Abrams: ({x-}{x-}) / {10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Nguyen: ({x-}{x-}) / {2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Wolansky: ({x-}{x-}) / {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{A-Spades}

On seventh Wolansky checked, Nguyen bet, and Abrams called. With but 7,000 left, to call would mean putting his last chips in the middle, and after thinking it over he folded his hand.

"8-6 baby," said Nguyen, tabling his hole cards to show he'd made an 8-6 low. "Aces," said Abrams, turning over {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, and the pair split the big pot.

The next hand saw Wolansky all in by third street against the same two, but by fifth Nguyen had bet Abrams out of the pot. By then Nguyen had ({A-Spades}{5-Spades}) / {5-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Wolansky ({3-Hearts}{6-Clubs}) / {6-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}.

Nguyen would draw {10-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} to end with aces and fives with no low, while Wolansky picked up {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} to end with nines and sixes and be eliminated.
