Troy Burkholder Eliminated in 15th Place ($111,893)

Level 19
Troy Burkholder - 15th Place
Troy Burkholder - 15th Place

Limit Hold'em

After doubling through John Hennigan for a second time, Troy Burkholder raised out of the hijack seat. David Benyamine called out of the big blind, and then the Frenchman check-raised on a flop of {9-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. Burkholder called.

The turn was the {j-Clubs}, Benyamine bet out, and Burkholder called. The {10-Hearts} completed the board, Benyamine bet out again. It was enough to put Burkholder all in, and while he was in the tank he asked the dealer what the next game was to see if it was an ante game.

Burkholder eventually called with {a-Clubs}{8-Spades} for tens and nines with an ace kicker, and he was eliminated when Benyamine showed {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for a full house.

Benson and Cassidy Bust Simultaneously; Split 16th-Place Money

Level 18
Joe Cassidy, left, and Gary Benson, right are the dual bubble boys.
Joe Cassidy, left, and Gary Benson, right are the dual bubble boys.

Pot-Limit Omaha

Gary Benson raised to 46,000 in the hijack seat, George Danzer called in the cutoff, and Kevin Song called in the big blind. All three players checked on a flop of {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, and the turn was the {5-Clubs}. Song checked, Benson moved all in for 26,000, and Danzer raised to 90,000. Song folded.

Danzer: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}
Benson: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

Benson was drawing to the {a-Diamonds} or a heart, but was unable to survive as the {j-Clubs} completed the board to give Danzer a flush. Benson was eliminated, but with a big hand in process, there was a chance that he might not walk away empty-handed.

"George," Troy Burkholder said to Danzer. "You're my new best friend."

Stud-8

Joe Cassidy: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} / {x-}
Huck Seed: {x-}{x-} / {2-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{6-Spades} / {x-}

Seed brought it in, Cassidy completed, and Seed raised. Cassidy called.

Both players checked on fourth street, and Seed checked again on fifth. Cassidy bet, and Seed started to tank. It was during his tank that Benson was eliminated, and nearly two minutes after Benson's fate was sealed, the 1996 Main Event champion raised. Cassidy re-raised, going all in, and Seed called.

Cassidy: {6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}
Seed: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Cassidy's two pair was ahead, and neither player improved on sixth. Seed sweat his card on seventh, saw that it was three-sided, then ripped over the case six ({6-Clubs}) to give him aces up. Cassidy was drawing to two fours to give him a full house, but bricked when he turned over the {10-Hearts}.

He and Benson will each receive $55,947 and some change, while the remaining players are guaranteed a minimum of $111,893.

Hang's Turn to Double in LHE

Level 18
Tommy Hang
Tommy Hang

Limit Hold'em

Don Nguyen raised in the cutoff, and Tommy Hang, who along with Troy Burkholder is one of the short stacks, made it three bets on the button. Nguyen re-raised, Hang went all in for 111,000, and Nguyen called.

Nguyen: {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Hang: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

Nguyen held an over card, but he was nearly drawing dead after the flop fell {8-Spades}{q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. He was officially drawing dead when the {9-Hearts} turned, and the {a-Diamonds} completed the board.

Hang doubled to 222,000, and is still drawing live to make the money.

Pescatori's Elimination Brings About the Money Bubble

Tommy Hang: {6-}{7-} / {9-}{10-}{q-}{5-} / {K-}
Max Pescatori: {a-}{7-} / {6-}{j-}{2-}{q-} / {2-}

Tommy Hang brought it in and then called when Max Pescatori completed. Hang took the lead on fourth and promptly bet, which inspired Pescatori to raise all in. Hang called and the cards were tabled. Hang ended up making a 10-9-7-6-5 on sixth, which meant Pescatori, who had a J-7-6-2-A, needed to improve on seventh to stay alive.

The "Italian Pirate" squeezed out his card, but the {2-} he looked down at paired his hand and wound up being the last card he would see in Event #55: The $50,000 Poker Players' Championship. With that, we're down to the final 17 and on the money bubble.

2-7 Triple Draw

Don Nguyen raised from the button and then called a three-bet from Mike Leah in the small blind. Nguyen then drew two after Leah stood pat.

Leah bet, Nguyen raised and Leah three-bet. Nguyen called and then both players stood pat. Leah proceeded to bet all in and Nguyen called. Again both players stood pat.

Leah tabled {9-}{7-}{5-}{3-}{2-} for a nine-seven but it was no good as Nguyen held {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-} for an eight-six. Leah then peeked at the next card to see what he would have gotten had he broke, but the {Q-} he found wouldn't have helped him.

Bach's Run at a Second Title Come to an End

Razz

Gary Benson: {a-}{6-} / {8-}{a-}{7-}{7-} / {4-}
David Bach: {a-}{6-} / {10-}{k-}{5-}{9-} / {6-}

David Bach won this event back in 2009 and was looking to join Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi as the only player to win the title twice. Unfortunately for Bach, his dreams of doing so just came to an end courtesy of Australian Gary Benson.

It happened when a raising way saw Bach get his short stack of 86,000 all in from the get go. He was holding a 10-6-A low and needed to improve against Benson's 8-6-A low. He did on fourth when Benson paired, and he stayed in the lead on fifth and sixth. That meant Benson needed to improve on seventh to eliminate Bach, and that's just what he did when he caught a {4-}. Bach paired his six and that was all she wrote for Bach.

Erick Lindgren - Eliminated

Razz

Don Nguyen: {x-}{x-} / {7-}{2-}{k-}{9-}
Erick Lindgren: {x-}{x-} / {4-}{q-}{q-}{5-}

We caught up with the action on fourth street, where 2008 World Series of Poker Player of the Year Lindgren called a bet from Nguyen. He called another on fifth, but folded on sixth street.

Lindgren: {x-}{x-} / {k-}{3-}{9-}{9-} / {x-}
Max Pescatori: {x-}{x-} / {7-}{k-}{7-}{a-} / {x-}
David Benyamine: {x-}{x-} / {9-}{4-}{9-}{4-} / {x-}

On the very next hand, Lindgren brought it in, Pescatori completed, and both Benyamine and Lindgren called. Benyamine bet out on fourth when Pescatori was dealt a king, Lindgren called all in, and Pescatori called.

Benyamine fired again on fifth, but slowed down on sixth, check-folding when he made two pair on board. He smiled and tabled a {4-}, signifying that he actually had a full house.

Lindgren: {6-}{3-}
Pescatori: {a-}{2-}

Both players had two pair, and Lindgren was drawing live, but when Pescatori pulled a {5-} on seventh street to give him {a-}{2-}{5-}{7-}{k-}, Lindgren couldn't make a better hand. He mucked his seventh card, and is off to register for the noon event.

Minh Ly: {x-}{x-} / {q-}{j-}{3-}{5-} / {x-}

We picked up the action on fourth street with Greg Mueller already all in for 25,000 or so. Bryn Kenney bet and received calls from Huck Seed and Minh Ly. The latter took the lead on fifth and checked, which prompted Seed to bet. Kenney, who received a king, folded and Ly made the call.

Ly then called a bet on sixth before betting after Seed checked seventh. Seed got out of the way and Ly tabled a 7-6-5-3-2 low, which bested Mueller's 8-7-5-4-3 low.

Chidwick Eliminated & Smith Quartered by Danzer

Level 17
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Omaha-8

George Danzer raised from early position only to have Justin "Boosted J" Smith three-bet from the cutoff. Stephen Chidwick then four-bet all in for 84,000 from the big blind and Danzer completed that up to 100,000. Smith five-bet, Danzer called and a side pot was created headed to the {2-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop. Danzer bet and Smith called off for his last 16,000.

Chidwick: {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{q-Spades}{3-Diamonds}
Danzer: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{3-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Smith: {a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

The {8-Diamonds} was put out on the turn followed by the {10-Diamonds} on the river. Chidwick missed his open-ended straight draw and couldn't best the two pair of Danzer, who shared the same low as Smith. That meant Chidwick was eliminated while Smith got quartered by Danzer.
