Ryan Welch Triples Up

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Anthony Maio raised to 26,000 from under the gun and Ryan Welch three-bet all in for 108,000 from UTG+2. Joe Kuether called on the button before Maio eventually reraised all in for a little bit more. Kuether called.

Maio: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Kuether: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}
Welch: {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, giving Kuther a comfortable lead. However, he lost out on the double elimination as the {5-Spades} turn gave Welch a set to win the main pot. Adding insult to injury, the {Q-Diamonds} river fell to give Maio two pair to survive.

Matthew Goldman Finds Runner-Runner Redemption

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Dan Kelly During Day 3 Action
Dan Kelly During Day 3 Action

As this Day 3 progresses at a torrid pace, the players have been pushing their chips around the table early and often. Matthew Goldman was the latest to get his stack into the middle, but his {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} was crushed by the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} held by Dan Kelly.

A flop of {K-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} appeared to be quite safe for Kelly's overpair, but the presence of connected low cards must have been a bit disconcerting. The {7-Diamonds} on the turn confirmed those fears, offering Goldman a lifeline in the form of an open-ended straight draw.

River: {3-Hearts}

Just like that, Goldman had doubled his stack of 240,000 through the dangerous Kelly, and he now sits with an average stack.

Benny and the Jets

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Benny Chen continued his ascent towards the top of the leaderboard, winning another hand recently with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}.

Chen opened for 24,000 from under the gun, and was three-bet to 56,000 by an opponent holding the button. Chen called and a flop of {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} was spread across the felt.

After checking to his opponent, Chen flat called a bet of 58,000, and the {J-Spades} arrived on the turn. Chen again check-called a bet, this time for 72,000.

On the {K-Hearts} river, both players opted to tap the table, and when the cards were revealed Chen's trip kings took the pot down.

David Windmiller, Meet Don Quixote

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Benny Chen During Day 2 Play
Benny Chen During Day 2 Play

Sitting on 220,000 chips and holding {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, David Windmiller charged valiantly ahead with an all-in bet before the flop. Unfortunately, Benny Chen woke up with {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} and looked him up, which meant Windmiller was dominated with his tournament life on the line.

Flop: {7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Turn: {6-Diamonds}
River: {A-Hearts}

No tens or straights arrived for Windmiller, and with a sudden gust, his chips were scattered in Chen's direction.

Joe Kuether Catching Lucky to Rebuild

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Two fortunate hands have moved Joe Kuether from the bottom of our chip counts into the realm of respectability.

First, Kuether got it all-in for his last 142,000 with {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} against an opponent's {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, and he was racing for his tournament life. Kuether found a flush draw on the flop of {5-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Clubs}, and he hit the turn of {9-Clubs} for the nut flush. Facing a set of nines now, Kuether needed to fade the board pairing to double-up, and the {Q-Diamonds} did the trick.

Next, Kuether shipped his still short stack into the middle with {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}, but was crushed by Ryan Welch and his {K-}{K-}.

Flop: {8-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

Kuether's run good continued as he spiked a set on the flop, and two harmless cards on fourth and fifth street saw him move from 100,000+ to 600,000+ in just two hands.
