Scotty Nguyen Has Been Busted From the 2013 Main Event
Scotty Nguyen Has Been Busted From the 2013 Main Event

The champion of the 1998 edition of this event, Scotty Nguyen, will not be making history this year with by winning a second Main Event title, as he has just been eliminated from the field in particularly painful fashion.

The action began when Nguyen opened for 1,200 from under the gun, and Tyler Denson three-bet to 3,500. After Nguyen flatted, the flop fell {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{q-Spades}, and the former champ checked the action.

Denson fired out a bet of 3,500, and Nguyen decided to make his stand, reraising for the rest of his stack. Denson snap-called and revealed the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} with a flourish, while Nguyen was left to table his {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} slowly and in silence, knowing that the end was near.

The turn ({5-Diamonds}) and river ({j-Diamonds}) failed to deliver the case ten to Nguyen, and he quickly walked away from the tournament floor in a daze, a cooler canning him from the most important tournament of the year.

See Tom (Se)Go

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

With the board reading {8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{q-Spades}{4-Clubs} by the turn, Tom Sego elected to make his stand with an all-in shove for 17,500, moving in over the top of a bet.

Sego's opponent quickly called with the {A-Spades}{q-Hearts}, but he found himself drawing exactly dead against Sego's {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for a set of fours. After the {8-Clubs} dropped on the river to make things official, Sego secured the double up to survive as Day 1b marches towards its conclusion.

Brad Garrett
Brad Garrett

We missed the betting amounts, but found out that Brad Garrett opened with a bet from middle position, before his opponent on the button raised it up. Garrett then moved all in for his last 5,800 and was called, as both players tabled their cards.

Garrett: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Opponent: {k-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Unfortunately for Garrett, the board ran out {6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{k-Spades} to see his opponent hit two-pair, sending him to the rail, with just over an hour left of the first day.

Gianluca Chipping Up

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

The hand started with the player in the cut-off opening to 850, and getting called by Rullo Gianluca on the big blind. The flop came down {2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}, as Gianluca checked his option, before his opponent decided to move all in for 4,600 in chips. Gianluca made the quick call, as the cards were tabled.

Gianluca: {q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Gianluca had flopped top pair, and held, as the board ran out the {3-Clubs} and {j-Hearts} to see him take out another player, moving to over 160,000 in chips.
