Karim Loses Three-Bet Pot, But Still Trending Upward

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

Zo Karim reraised to 3,025 from the cutoff after the player to his right had opened to 1,300. The player made the call, and the two saw a flop of {j-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. Karim bet 2,425 when checked to, and his opponent called. Both players checked the {5-Spades} turn, and a {q-Hearts} fell on the river. Karim's opponent checked, and he bet 6,250. His opponent woke up with a check-raise to 16,800. Karim thought for awhile, playfully said something to his opponent, then folded.

Despite the setback, Karim has increased his stack by nearly double thus far today.

Nguyen Chops It Out

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

Action folded around to Michael Cooper in middle position, and he raised it up to 1,325. Huy Nguyen was a couple of spots over, and he moved all in for 9,150. It got back around to Cooper, and he made the call.

Cooper: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Nguyen: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

Nguyen tapped the table when he saw Cooper's hand, seemingly resigned to his fate. However, he got some chop outs when the flop came {5-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{5-Clubs}. Nugyen could not catch an ace, king, or five for a chop, or a jack for the outright win, and he got the {5-Hearts} on the turn. The river would ony change things if one of the players paired their kicker, but the {10-Spades} didn't do that, sealing up the chop for both players.

Hellmuth Rakes in Three-Bet Pot

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Phil Hellmuth is slowly chipping up.
Phil Hellmuth is slowly chipping up.

Phil Hellmuth opened to 1,800 from middle position, and the cutoff called. The button three-bet to 3,700, and Hellmuth called, as did the cutoff.

Hellmuth decided to lead out on the {7-Spades}{q-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop, betting 5,000. The cutoff folded, while the button began thinking.

"I'll take this one, you take the next one," Hellmuth said.

His opponent finally folded {a-}{k-} face-up, and Hellmuth quickly mucked his cards.

Clubs Work for Cody

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

After having taken a hit in a wild three-way hand during the first level today, Jake Cody just doubled up to climb back up to 70,000 after once again finding himself all in and at risk in a hand involving Vee Lee.

The hand had gotten to a {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{J-Clubs} flop with Cody all in with {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Lee again turning up {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. The turn then brought the {6-Clubs} to complete Cody's flush, making the river {7-Spades} no matter.

"I thought you might turn over queens again," said Lee afterwards, alluding to their earlier hand.

Lauren Billings Eliminated

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

Aaron Benton raised preflop, and Lauren Billings called. The flop came {4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, and Billings bet 3,000. Benton called, and the dealer turned the {3-Hearts}. Benton checked, and Billings bet out again, this time for 6,000. Benton raised to 15,000, and Billings quickly pushed all in. Benton called immediately and turned over {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for trip fours. Billings held {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}, and she would need help. The river was a brick, and the dealer pushed the pot to Benton.

After the hand, Benton was up to 123,000 in chips, and Billings was eliminated.

Laura Green (left) and Scott Born (far right)

Laura Green and Scott Born are both located on Table 429 here in the Amazon Room.

So?

They're both from Woodstock, Georgia.

So?

Well they are actually here on their honeymoon and have somehow managed to be seated on the same table for Day 2.

Speaking to the Tournament Director, he indicated that since the tournament is underway there is no need to separate them, and so far it appears that they are enjoying seated on the same table as they are happily chatting away with each other and other players.

Chutes and Ladders For Jason Mercier

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

We just saw Jason Mercier play two pots, one which he won and one which he lost.

In the first, a player opened from middle position to 1,200. Mercier was next to act from the hijack seat and he reraised to 3,125. Action folded around the table and the original raiser called.

The flop came down {2-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and the player checked to Mercier. Mercier put out a continuation bet of 2,750. The player called. The turn was the {Q-Diamonds} and the player decided to lead out with a bet of 4,200. After thinking about it for a few seconds Mercier folded and the player picked up the pot.

On the second hand Mercier opened from middle position to 1,200. He only picked up a call from the big blind. The flop came out {K-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and the big blind checked. Mercier started counting out chips, but before he could even put a bet in the pot, the big blind folded.

Mercier has been having an up and down day, but he's now sitting below the starting stack and has a lot of work to do if he wants to make it deep in the Main Event.
