Huey Wins Big Pot; Closes in on Chip Lead

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Mathew Huey
Mathew Huey

The action started with the player in middle position opening to 4,300, before Mathew Huey raised it up to 13,000 from the hijack. Justin Liberto then paused for a moment, before bumping it up to 27,700. The original better got out of the way, before Huey quickly raised it up once more to 50,000. Liberto tanked for a minute, before making the call.

The flop came down {k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and Liberto checked. Huey instantly reached for his chips, and slid out another 50,000. He was called, as the {7-Spades} fell on the turn. Liberto quickly checked, and Huey paused for a second, before moving all in for over 300,000.
The bet had Liberto covered, who then agonised over his decision. He sat forward in his seat, shaking his head, and riffling his chips rather vigorously. Almost two minutes went by before he made the call, as both players tabled their cards.

Huey: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Liberto: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Liberto had run into an over pair, and needed a miracle on the river to stay alive. Unfortunately, the {6-Spades} completed the board, as Liberto quickly exited the Amazon Room, leaving Huey to stack up his new found wealth.

Deeb Knocks Out a Player....or Does He?

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Freddy Deeb
Freddy Deeb

We heard a bit of a commotion coming from Freddy Deeb's table, and walked over to see that he was involved in the hand being discussed. Here is what we saw when we got there. Deeb held {10-Spades}{5-Spades} on a completed board of {7-Spades}{10-Clubs}{a-Spades}{4-Spades}{k-Clubs}, and it looked like he had just knocked out a player. This player is from Brazil, and hardly speaks or understands English, which was the root of the problem. Here was the issue, as Deeb told the floor in his own words.

On the river, Deeb asked the player how much he had (about 57,000). The player then pushed out his chips far enough that Deeb could see them, and Deeb asked "Will you call if I bet?" Again the player didn't fully understand, and Deeb's bet ended up being for 47,000, about 10,000 less then his opponent had. However, thinking that Deeb had set him all in, the players moved all of his chips forward. Deeb called the rest off with the flush, and then the confusion started over how much the bets actually were.

Deeb told the floor that he believed the players intentions were to just call the bet, and that he should be given his last 10,000 back. However, the dealer ruled that he had in fact moved all in, and that Deeb would be given the full stack. Deeb apologized to the player, who still appeared to be confused, but ultimately nodded to the table, and left with at least half a smile on his face. After winning that hand, Deeb has jumped all the way up to 306,000.

Meyers Moving Up

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Brandon Meyers has been steadily accumulating chips through the first two levels today, having just recently claimed another pot to push his stack up closer to the 400,000-chip mark.

We arrived on the end to see all five community cards having been dealt — {5-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{K-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} — a pot-sized bet of 25,000 sitting in front of Meyers, and the clock having been called on Meyers's tanking opponent. With the final seconds being counted down, Meyers's opponent finally folded, conceding to him the pot.

Koren Doubles Through Scaife

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Art Koren
Art Koren

Art Koren raised to 5,000 under the gun, and everyone folded around to John Scaife in the big blind. Scaife three-bet to 20,000. Koren thought for a minute and re-raised to 45,000. Scaife looked to see how many chips Koren had left, and then pushed out a call. The flop came {5-Clubs}{2-Spades}{4-Spades}, and Scaife checked. Koren pushed out a bet of what looked like 35,000, and without even asking how much the bet was, Scaife immediately announced he was all in. Koren quickly called and turned over {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}, and he was in good shape against Scaife's {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}. The turn and river were both bricks, and Koren won the pot to double up.

After the hand, Koren was up to 320,000, and the big-stacked Scaife dropped to 367,000.

Blumenthal Pushes Out Jacks

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Eddie Blumenthal opened to 4,400 from middle position and Simon Charette called from the cutoff before the small blind tossed in five orange 5,000-denomination chips amounting to a raise of 25,000.

With the action back on Blumenthal, he moved all in for roughly 210,000 to force Charette to fold as the action returned to the small blind who stood up to contemplate his decision.

After speaking to himself about hands Blumenthal had, he stated, "there is no way you have pocket tens!"

About a minute went by and the small blind open-mucked his {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} to see Blumenthal pushed the pot.
