Watson Chipping Up

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Mike "SirWatts" Watson has been chipping up today to move up over the 300,000-chip mark.

Just now he was involved in a hand that saw just him and a lone opponent left by fourth street, with Watson having been the lone check-caller of a 17,000 flop bet after the first three cards had come {4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. Watson then fired 35,000 on the {A-Diamonds} turn, and after tanking a while his opponent mucked.

Ladies Night at the Main Event

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Lisa Costello
Lisa Costello

On table in the Brasilia Room has an unusually large percentage of female players, three out of eight. Lisa Costello and Stacy Taylor have been battling it out most of the day, and Amanda Baker was recently moved to the table as well. The women are seated almost right in a row.

Costello added a bit to her stack in a recent hand. She raised to 6,500 preflop, and only one player called. Both players checked the {2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{q-Spades} flop, then checked again on the {6-Spades} turn and the {6-Diamonds} river. Costello's opponent showed {a-}{9-} for ace high, but Costello showed {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for a better ace high. She took the pot, and now sits with 158,000.

Lindh Jams the Turn, Gets There

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Christopher Lindh bet 19,200 after his opponent in the big blind checked with the board reading {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. The big blind raised to 62,000, prompting Lindh to move all in. The big blind seemed anguished and at one point held his cards out as if he was going to drop them into the muck. He pulled them back, however, and continued thinking. Finally, he reached back and decisively slid his entire stack in, calling it off.

Lindh: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Big blind: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

He was ahead with two pair, but Lindh had plenty of outs with a flush draw and a higher pair. The dealer burned and turned an {a-Clubs}, completing Lindh's flush.

"Motherf*****," the big blind said, slapping the table in frustration.

Lindh now holds nearly 700,000 in chips.

Morris Endures Slight Damage from Ramage

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

A three-way hand saw both blinds check a {9-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop to Grayson Ramage in the cutoff who bet 10,500. The action came back to Gregory Morris in the small blind who check-raised to 23,500, forcing out the big blind.

Ramage sat for about a minute before acting, then declared he was all in for the 100,000 or so he had left behind. Morris took about 30 seconds, then let his hand go.

Crane Can't Beat Aces

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

From late position, Russell Crane raised to 6,500. The button three-bet to 17,500, and Crane made the call. Then, the dealer spread the {8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop, and Crane checked. His opponent bet 22,500, and Crane called.

The turn card was the {K-Spades}, and Crane checked again. His opponent fired 60,000, and Crane called. After the {7-Diamonds} river, both players checked.

Crane mucked after his opponent showed the {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} and dropped back to 268,000 in chips.

Elder Gets Shorter

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

A player on the button raised to 6,500 and Rupert Elder responded with a three-bet to 17,000 from the small blind. After the big blind folded, the button shoved for 136,000, and Elder called.

Button: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Elder: {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

The board ran out an uneventful {4-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs}, and Elder stack dipped to 204,000.

Dattani Defers

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Umang Dattani just opened for 7,000 from the hijack seat, then watched as an opponent on the button pushed all in from the button. It folded back around to Dattani who looked over his sunglasses perched low on his nose at his opponent's stack.

"I'm probably not gonna call," he said, but asked for a count nonetheless. Learning it was 77,500, Dattani leaned back and tossed his cards away. "You win!" he said.

For most of the day, though, it has been Dattani winning the pots at his table. He entered Day 3 with a big stack, and has grown it further all day to push up over 750,000 at the moment.

Johnson Continues to Climb

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

At the lone table remaining in the back section of the room, Chris Johnson three-bet to 16,000 from the small blind after the player on the button opened to 6,000. The button made the call, and the flop came {6-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Johnson bet 20,000, and his opponent folded, and Johnson is nearing the 400,000 mark.

Greg Merson Doubles Up, Then Loses Some Back

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

With a raise to 6,000 and a call before him, Greg Merson three-bet to 24,500 from the big blind. Samuel Tsehai, the original raiser, four-bet to 43,000, forcing a fold from the third player in the hand. Merson five-bet to 76,500, Tsehai shoved with the bigger stack, and Merson called all in for 284,000 with {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}, miles ahead of Tsehai's {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}.

The {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop was safe for Merson, though the {K-Hearts} turn gave Tsehai two outs. However, the {5-Hearts} river secured the double up for Merson.

A few hands later, Merson opened to 7,500 in the hijack and Bruno "Kool Shen" Lopes called from the small blind. The {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop was checked by both and Lopes bet 10,000 after the {3-Diamonds} turn fell. Merson raised to 25,000, leading to a Lopes reraise shove for about 125,000. Merson went deep into the tank, emerging after about three minutes with a call, tabling {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}. Lopes was drawing with {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and got there when the {6-Hearts} river gave him a flush.
