Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Tom Alner opened to 17,000 from early position, Tyler Cornell three-bet to 42,000 from middle position, then Erkut Yilmaz four-bet to 112,000 from the hijack seat. Everyone folded back to Alner, then he folded and Cornell followed suit, giving Yilmaz the pot.

Grand One for Petit

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

We arrived in the midst of preflop back-and-forthing between Emile Petit and James Alexander, sitting side-by-side in the cutoff and on the button, respectively. By then the pair had reached a point where Alexander was tasked with deciding whether or not to call a final reraise for 117,000 more from Petit, and with a big grin and a laugh Alexander said he was calling, thus creating a total pot of about 400,000.

Petit tabled {K-Clubs}{K-Spades} and Alexander said "I'm gonna need to make two pair" as he turned over his {10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. The flop came {J-Spades}{5-Spades}{6-Clubs}. "Or a straight," added Alexander, then the {7-Clubs} appeared on the turn to increase the possibility of that happening. But the river was the {Q-Diamonds}, and Petit won and survived.

"You're welcome, sir," said Alexander to Petit afterwards, then opened the next pot while saying "I gotta get those back."

Geshkenbein Gets 'Em Back

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

After losing a few pots, Vladimir Geshkenbein has once again climbed back up the charts by winning a million-chip race. The Russian was up against Carlo Savinelli, who was all in and at risk for around 520,000 with {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}. Geshkenbein tabled {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}, and the window card was the {a-Spades}.

Unfortunately for Savinelli, it was followed by the {q-Spades}, giving Geshkenbein a set of queens, and the {3-Diamonds}. Savinelli was still alive when the {j-Spades} turned, any ten would give him Broadway, but the {5-Diamonds} bricked off on the river.

The Italian hit the rail, while Geshkenbein now has around 1.6 million chips.

Rafael Caiaffa Busts

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Georg Lehmann and Rafael Caiaffa, who were very close in chips, got involved in an all in confrontation preflop. Caiaffa turned over {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}, and he was behind Lehmann's {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}. The board ran out {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Lehmann's kings held up, and Caiaffa was eliminated from the tournament.

Pollock Wins Battle of Draws, KOs Carini

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Josh Pollock, seen here in a PLO event he won earlier this summer.
Josh Pollock, seen here in a PLO event he won earlier this summer.

Four players saw a flop of {2-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} at Table 453. The first two players checked, and John Scaife bet 28,000. Josh Pollock made the call, and Andrea Carini made it 111,000. After the squeezed player folded, Scaife folded as well. Pollock asked the dealer to pull in the calls, and he announced all in after a minute of thought. Carini quickly called.

Carini: {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Pollock: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Both had flush draws, but Carini was in bad shape with an inferior high card. The turn was a {k-Spades}, keeping him alive if he could pair up on the river. A {4-Diamonds} hit the board though, and Pollock, who claimed a bracelet earlier this summer in a PLO event, has announced himself as a contender with well over a million in chips.

Timoshenko Scoops a 700k Pot From Ha

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Yevgeniy Timoshenko
Yevgeniy Timoshenko

Yevgeniy Timoshenko opened the pot from the hijack seat with a raise to 17,000. Vimy Ha flatted from the big blind.

The flop came down {10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Ha led out with a bet of 13,000. Timoshenko called.

The turn card was the {8-Clubs} and here's where things got crazy. Ha led again with a bet of 23,000. Timoshenko took his time to cut out a raise to 65,000. Action was back on Ha and he put in a reraise to 130,000. Timoshenko thought for about a minute and a half before putting in the chips for a call.

The river fell the {5-Diamonds} and Ha put out a bet of 200,000. Timoshenko went deep into the tank. He cut out two stacks of 20 T5,000 orange chips and put them in front of him. He motioned like he was going to put them in the pot, took his hands off, then he put his hands back and pushed the chips out for a call.

Ha showed {K-Clubs}{J-} for king high, but Timoshenko had made the right call with {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades} for a pair of tens with the pair of fives on the board. With that, the giant pot was pushed to Timoshenko and he moved over to 900,000 in chips.

Williams Relinquishes Chip Lead

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Kevin Williams opened to 17,000 from middle position and got called by both blinds; one of which was John Crisostomo from the big.

The {10-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} flop was checked through to see the {9-Hearts} on the turn with Williams tossing in a single 25,000-denomination chip. The small blind folded but Crisostomo called as the {6-Hearts} completed the board on the river.

Crisostomo then looked down at his stack and started to cut away some chips from his stack before Williams mucked without Crisostomo realizing. The dealer then pushed the pot to Crisostomo, and he looked up not realizing what had happened. He then showed his {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for an expected bluff and raked in the pot.

Tran Takes One Down

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

We walked up to the table to see JC Tran in a heads up pot with Christopher Whitall. The flop came down {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}, and Whitall check-called a bet of 16,000 from Tran. The turn brought the {2-Hearts}, and this time, Whitall led out for 22,000. Tran tossed in the call, and the river was the {k-Spades}. Whitall fired out 27,000, and Tran cut out the chips for the call. He started to shuffle them for a bit, then he went back to his stack for raising chips. His bet all together was 76,000, and he slid it into the middle. Whitall tanked for about 90 seconds before kicking his hand in, and Tran took down the pot to get up to 480,000.
