Reed Rivers a Set, Has Nearly Three Million

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

According to Jason Potter, Matthew Reed and Christopher Anderson saw the flop heads-up in a four-bet pot. On the {8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{j-Clubs} board, the two got all the chips in the middle.

Reed: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Anderson: {j-}{j-}

Anderson had outflopped Reed in a big way, and Reed now needed a set of his own to take the pot. The turn was a {k-Clubs}, but the river brought the {a-Clubs}, and Reed had spiked his set to scoop one of the biggest pots of the tournament and eliminate Anderson.

Schwarmann KO's Another

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

No more then two hands after Nick Schwarmann ousted Vivek Rajkumar, he busted Samuel Clements. Clements raised to 32,000 from under the gun +1, and Schwarmann reraised to 122,000 from the small blind. Clements moved all in for just 3,000 more, and Schwarmann called.

Clements: {Q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Schwarmann: {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}

Clements was in a world of hurt, and would need a ton of help to survive the hand. He caught little to no help on the flop of {4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, and Clements would need runner runner to survive. He got one of those cards when the {9-Spades} hit the turn, but the {j-Spades} on the river didn't help him anymore.

Schwarmann collected another bounty, upping his stack to 1.91 million, while Clements headed for the payout desk.

Mandic Doubles Through Pellegrino

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

After facing a bet of 33,000, Bryan Pellegrino raised it up to 80,000 from the button. Goran Mandic was on the small blind, and thought for a minute, before bumping it up to 158,000. The original better got out of the way, before Pellegrino opted to move all in for around 1.6 million in chips. Mandic snap called for less, and the players tabled their cards.

Mandic: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Pellegrino: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

The board ran out {j-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, to see Mandic hold with his pocket pair, before doubling up.

Dattani KOs Lehmann

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

We came upon a preflop battle brewing between Umang Dattani and Georg Lehmann in which Dattani was putting in another reraise for 200,000 on top of Lehmann's latest bet, then Lehmann shoved all in and Dattani called right away.

Lehmann had {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} while Dattani had {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. The board came uneventfully — {2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Spades}{J-Spades} — removing doubt by the turn and knocking Lehmann from the tournament.

Buckenmayer Poised for Another Run

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Greg Merson and Steve Gee aren't the only players making a run in the Main Event for the second straight year. Bob Buckenyamer took 17th in the 2012 Main Event, and he's still alive and above average here on Day 5. We recently found Buckenmayer raising preflop from early position and then four-betting after Jose Pinedamoncada three-bet from the small blind. Pinedamoncada called, creating a pot worth 470,000 before the flop. Both players checked the {4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, and Pinedamoncada checked again on the {K-Spades} turn. Buckenmayer moved all in for 532,000, which prompted a fold from his opponent. The retired businessman is now sitting on just over a million.

Merson Under 500,000

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Greg Merson
Greg Merson

Nick Schwarmann raised it up to 38,000 in middle position, and Greg Merson called on the button. Kimura tagged along from the big blind, and the flop ran down {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. Kimura checked to Schwarmann, who fired out 42,000, and Merson was the only caller. The turn brought the {4-Hearts}, and Schwarmann checked to Merson, who then bet 64,000. Schwarmann tossed in the call, and when the river brought the {Q-Spades}, Schwarmann moved all in.

This was a bet that would cost Merson all of his chips, and he quickly got out of the way, giving Schwarmann yet another big pot at this featured table. Meanwhile, Merson is at a low on the day of 495,000.

Loosi's String Bet Gets Through

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Sami Rustom raised to 32,000 from early position, Sylvain Loosli three-bet to 122,000 on his direct left, and the action folded back to Rustom, who called.

The flop fell {7-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, Rustom checked, and Loosli continued for 125,000. Rustom check-raised to 300,000, and after tanking for a minute or so, Loosli called.

The turn brought the {9-Clubs}, Rustom checked, and Loosli returned to the tank. He reached for chips, cut out 70,000 in orange T5,000 chips, pulled out a full stack of orange (100,000), and grabbed a few green T25,000 chips. He then slid forward three different stacks one at time, first pushing forward 70,000 then adding the full stack of orange and the green.

Rustom asked for a count, the dealer told him 280,000, and then Rustom told the dealer that it was a string bet. The dealer called a floor person over, who after hearing the dealer recount the tale, ruled that it was indeed a string bet.

Loosli pulled back the green chips, and a few oranges that were on top of the green chips, and left out 170,000. Rustom protested, but the dealer, Olaoluwa Okelola, and Kevin Williams all said that the original movement included the full stack of orange chips. The floor person ruled that the full stack would stay.

Rustom tanked for a bit, then finally folded his hand, prompting Loosli to throw up his hands in disgust. He said something to Rustom that Rustom couldn't hear, and when he asked Loosli to repeat it, he refused.
