Popescu Calls and Wins

Level 16

No-Limit Hold'em

Three players saw a flop of {k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. Josh Arieh and Septimiu Popescu checked, and the player in the cutoff bet 5,600. Both players called. Everyone checked the {3-Hearts} turn, and Arieh led out 14,000 on the {j-Clubs} river. Popescu went into the tank for a couple of minutes, rubbing his temples and placing his forehead in his hands as he thought. Finally, he called off most of his stack. The cutoff folded.

Arieh: {k-}{9-}
Popescu: {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Popescu's kicker won him the pot.

"What on earth were you thinking about?" Arieh asked. "Were you thinking about folding?"

Popescu confirmed he was, and Arieh just nodded thoughtfully.

Van Alstyne Takes It Down

Level 16

Stud Eight-or-Better

James Van Alstyne: {x-}{x-} / {4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Clubs} / {x-}
Mike Wattel: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} / {x-}

We caught up to the action on seventh street to see a series of bets on the table. James Van Alstyne and Mike Wattel were both dealt their final card and Wattel checked his option. Van Alstyne fired out one last bet and Wattel took his time calling.

Van Alstyne showed {6-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts} for a straight and a low which was enough to scoop the pot. Wattel mucked and Van Alstyne boosted his stack to around 96,000.

Malm Takes it with a Four-Bet

Level 16

No-Limit Hold'em

Michael Malm opened to 3,600 from middle position. Josh Arieh made it 8,200 to go from the cutoff.

"Do you have me covered?" Malm asked. Arieh confirmed he did.

Undeterred, Malm bumped it to 21,000, and Arieh bowed out of the pot.

Tryba Takes One

Level 16
Chris Tryba
Chris Tryba

No-Limit Hold'em

Action folded around to the player on the button. He opened with a raise to 3,500. Chris Tryba called out of the big blind.

The flop saw {6-Hearts}{K-Spades}{A-Clubs} hit the felt and Tryba checked. His opponent continued out for 3,800 and Tryba cut out a raise to 15,000. Tryba's opponent thought for some time before flat calling. Fourth street was the {4-Hearts} and Tryba slowed down with a check. His opponent checked it back and the {10-Hearts} hit the river. Two more checks prompted Tryba to show {A-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. His opponent mucked and Tryba dragged in the pot. He's now sitting on roughly 172,000 in chips.
