Campbell Cheers

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

The dealer already had rushed away the cards of the female player on the button as we arrived at the table, alerted by the massive cheer from David Campbell. It turned out that he was all in with the {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} on the {10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop against the {6-}{6-} of the button for about 7,400 chips.

On the {A-Hearts} turn he hit the two-outer and the {5-Spades} river completed the board. The button still has chips left, but Campbell is now among the bigger stacks in the early stages of Day 1.

A Few Player Chip Count Updates

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Ty Stewart looked set to make an early exit a short while ago, but when we swung by his table he looks to have spun it up to around 8,000 as we approach the second break of the day.

Stewart's last longer bet against Chad Holloway is looking a lot closer now as Holloway has slipped a little to 6,500.

Meanwhile the aggressive Cameron Tullis is continuing to dominate his table and has accumulated an impressive chip stack of around 20,000.

Pack Finds a Double

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

We walked up to a board of {j-}{3-}{2-} and a pot of approximately 3,000. Vongduane Sengseevong had bet 1,500 and John Pack raised all in for 6,350. Sengseevong thought for a moment before making the call. Pack showed {2-}{2-}, having flopped a set of twos, while Sengseevong turned over {4-}{5-} for the open-ended straight draw.

Pack faded her outs, however, and the man whose "day job" is poker dealer at Aria is still employed in this event.

Pitt Squeezes Through

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Matthew Pitt
Matthew Pitt

With a raise from under the gun and a flat call on the button, Matthew Pitt squeezed for the rest of his chips holding {5-}{5-} in the blinds. The original raiser called and the button folded, and Pitt was up against {k-}{q-}.

A flop of {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} gave his opponent a straight draw while neither held a club. The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and the river the {a-Hearts}, and Pitt survived.

Half the Field Gone

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Registration remains open for this level and up until the start of the next one, but we have already lost pretty much half the field with 396 out of 874 entries remaining according to the screens. When will the huge wave of eliminations finally slow down?

It is obviously no coincidence either, that as a result the tables in the Bronze section are all empty by now as well.

Lee Finds a Double

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Bernard Lee was down to his last 1,300 and moved all in against a limp from early position. His opponent called with {2-Spades}{2-Hearts} and it was a flip versus Lee's {A-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. Lee nailed the {7-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} flop and stayed ahead after the {J-Hearts} turn and {5-Hearts} river to stay in the tournament.

Terrence Chan must have had similar fortune, because he was back at more than 7,000 chips after having previously dropped to as low as 2,400.

Feldman Hates Cowboys, But They Love Him

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Dave Feldman moved all in over the top of an open, and having got a count of 1,400 his opponent made the call.

Feldman turned over the {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and visibly winced as his saw he was up against {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, clearly not fancying his chances.

The {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop saw Feldman shake his head but the turn {3-Spades} and river {8-Hearts} were safe enough and he doubled up.

“Top set and still a sweat,” one player commented. “You have no idea how bad my record is with kings,” Feldman replied.

Feldman told PokerNews he felt the queen coming on the river, but since it didn’t come he remained one of the last of the Bally Technology employees in the event. Asked if they had a last longer bet, he shook his head and remarked that he wished they did now.
