Legg Up

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Two fairly even stacks were all in preflop with Andrew Legg tabling {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} versus his opponents {2-}{2-}.

The cards ran out {3-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades} with Legg calling for the straight flush on the flop. The turned nut flush was good enough and his upset opponent pushed all the chips in a heap towards Legg.

Dangerous Queens

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Women are always expensive and so are pocket queens at poker. James Lambert was fortunate to crack the queens of an opponent with the {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} on the {3-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts} board and double up for 6,500.

Only one minute later, Eric Monson took care of a short stack with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} versus {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}. After the {6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{8-Spades}{9-Clubs} board, he increased his stack to 30,000 in chips.

The Rich Get Richer

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

From under the gun, a short stack moved all in for what looked like eight big blinds. One seat over, Ray Kluever made the call and all other players folded. It was {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for the shortie and {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} for Kluever. The {Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades} board ran out safely for the big stack and he joins the top stacks at the moment.

Matthew Pitt

Matthew Pitt, UK PokerNews Editor, WSOP blogger and self-styled short-stack ninja is out.

As he so eloquently put it, “Ace king into nines.” He couldn’t improve and his tournament was over.

However he did win $100 in the PokerNews last longer bet and is now off to sink a couple of beers and watch a few episodes of The Sopranos. He seemed happy enough.

Harding Gets Heaps

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

The flop was {3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades} and two players went to war.

Josh Harding opened the betting and when faced with a raise he shoved all in. His opponent asked for a count and after some delay and help from the players at the table the dealer declared the count was around 13,000. His opponent made the call asking if Harding had flopped a set of sixes.

Harding hadn’t flopped a set but his {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} was ahead of the {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} of his opponent.

The turn {a-Diamonds} and river {8-Clubs} stayed safe and a big mound of chips was pushed Harding’s way.

Nice Small Blind Special

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

"Sherwin" just defended his small blind against an under-the-gun raise and then flopped the nuts on {8-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}. The initial raiser wouldn't want to lay down {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and lost 7,275 chips versus {9-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} after two blanks on turn and river.

Only 144 players remain and we are taking heavy steps towards the money, which will come at 90 left.

Battle Of The Big Stacks

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

We only arrived on the river of a {5-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} board and saw 7,000 chips in front of Antonio Bonilla. After some consideration, Corey Emery tossed in a 1k chip to announce the call and Bonilla showed {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}. "Oh wow," he said when Emery turned over {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds} and as a result was overtaken in chip count by the opponent.

Dembowski Distraught

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

Jason Dembowski moved all in and it was folded around to the small blind James Lambert who hadn’t seen the shove and announced, “Raise.” The floor was called and it was ruled that it had to be a min-raise. He didn’t have enough for that so he too was all in and the at risk player with his last 4,700 chips.

Dembowski tabled {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts} versus the {k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} of Lambert. The cards ran out {5-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and Lambert spiked a pair to double up.

Lambert was given a one hand penalty for the mistake and a visibly distraught Dembowski was crippled and all in next hand for his last 1,400 with {a-Spades}{6-Diamonds} getting called by a bigger stack with {j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}.

He doubled up as the cards ran out {q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} but had suffered a lot of damage to his stack.
