Idema Quarters Opponent, Still Down Early

Level 2 : 50/75, 0 ante

Daniel Idema bet fourth and fifth streets as the board came {5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, and he was called both times by an out-of-position opponent.

Idema showed {a-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{j-Spades} for a seven-high straight with a wheel for low. His opponent had flopped a wheel and been counterfeited with {a-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}, and Idema took three-quarters of the pot.

Despite the small win, Idema is still below the starting stack. He's coming off an excellent 2013 World Series of Poker that featured five cashes, two final tables, and one bracelet win in Stud Eight-or-Better. We'll see if he can add to the bracelet tally here.

Bach Quartered

Level 2 : 50/75, 0 ante

David Bach check-called on fourth and fifth streets out of the small blind as the board came {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}. Bach's opponent in the cutoff showed {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for a flush and ace-five low. Bach, meanwhile, had a two-way hand as well but it was only good for a quarter of the pot: {a-}{5-}{k-}{2-} for kings up and ace-five low.

Prasetyo Pays Shulman

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

In one of the last hands before break, we found Barry Shulman check-raising after Aditya Prasetyo bet a {2-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{j-Clubs} flop. A third player in the pot folded, and Prasetyo called. The {j-Hearts} turn paired the board, and Prasetyo called another bet. He did the same on a {k-Hearts} river.

Shulman showed {j-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for a full house, and Prasetyo patted the table in submission.

Defending Champ Gets Profitable Chop, Still Down Early

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

We found last year's winner of this event, Calen McNeil, betting on the end with the board reading {4-Hearts}{7-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. One player folded, Jason Smith called, and a player who checked out of the small blind agonized for about a minute before calling.

"Nut flush," McNeil announced as he turned over {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for the flush with no low. Smith showed {a-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} for the nut low, and the small blind mucked his hand.

Fricke Makes a Boat

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

Three players put in one bet apiece on fourth street with the board reading {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, and a {7-Hearts} double-paired the board. The first player checked, and Jimmy "Gobboboy" Fricke bet. The third player called and the first folded. Fricke showed {7-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades} for a full house, and his opponent revealed {a-}{j-}{6-}{x-} as he mucked face up.

Also, David Williams has joined the field.

Hua Rivers Boat for Three-Quarters

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

We found C.K. Hua showing down {a-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} on a board of {k-Spades}{4-Spades}{8-Spades}{5-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, good for fours full for high and ace-three low. His opponent showed {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for a flush and the same low, meaning last year's second-place finisher in this event took three-quarters of the pot.

Speaking of players who made deep runs last year, Tony Ma, who got fifth, is among the notables we recently saw.
