Ace King Not a Hand

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

One of the big stacks on the table opened for 10,000 and the player on the button moved all in for 13,500. The big blind then re-shoved for 40,000 and it was back on the original raiser.

He hemmed and hawed and folded his {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} face up. The short stack showed {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and the big blind showed {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}. The aces held up to deliver a double uo.

“Good fold. Ace king is not a hand. Not for me.”

A recurring theme is players here not liking ace king and losing with it if they play it. You have been warned.

The Chipless and Their Cheddar

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Young Ji the Go Getta

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Young Ji
Young Ji

Last summer the Seniors Championship became a young man's game, as the inimitable Young Ji weaved his way to a 104th place finish in the 2013 edition of this event.

Along the way Ji became a favorite of railbirds and reporters alike, regaling his tablemates with a selection of jokes so juicy that even his opponents had to laugh along.

"I should not be playing in this event because I am Young," Ji once said. "None of you are young. Only I am young because that is my name."

Ji is back in the house here today playing in his second consecutive Seniors Championship Day 2 in as many attempts, and while his stack sits a little below the average at the moment, the active and energetic player is sure to make some moves as the afternoon progresses.

Phillips Up, Farha Down

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Dennis Phillips
Dennis Phillips

Dennis Phillips had a miserable few last levels yesterday losing three flips close together to devastate his stack which was hard to take at the end of 11 hours of poker. Phillips seems much happier this afternoon though as he has managed to quadruple up and is now on 62,000 which is, as he told us, above the average stack of 57,717. “Now I’ve got to hang on to it.” he quipped.

Not having such a great start is Sammy Farha who has slid to 30,000, while Simon Trumper is stable on 48000.

Biggest Stack In the Room

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Herbert Bennett has been using the MyStack app regularly to update his chip count and we just walked by after he won another massive pot. He should be up to 201,000 now and is most likely the current chip leader after Richard Munro lost a smaller pot not long ago.

Protect Your Cards

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

There was a limp for 2,000 on the button and the gentleman in the small blind sitting in the one seat declared he was all in. Unfortunately the dealer had scooped his cards and his hand was dead.

The floor was called to explain to the player that he was responsible for protecting has cards and that he must forfeit 2,000 to match the call. The player wasn’t happy about it but he accepted the ruling.

On the next hand he was in the big blind and as he received his cards he placed a chip on them to protect them. He was all in on the flop this time and his two pair faded the fluch draw of this opponent to double up, so a happy ending for now.

Meanwhile at the same table looking on was Barny Boatman, who has added a decent amount toi his stack and is up to 70,000,
