Leah Gets Scooped

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Omaha Hi-Low

We got to see the three-way {5-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} turn in the very last hand of level 18 and Mike Leah check-called 10,000 from Fu Wong, the third player on the button folded. Wong bet again 10,000 on the {J-Spades} river and Leah reluctantly tossed in the chips to get shown the nut flush and the nut low. He could not beat either and dropped from more than 200,000 to 170,000.

Some Nice Hands Around Here

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Stud Hi-Low

The bets were flying between Allyn Jaffrey Shulman and Raymond Bonavida on their last hand of the seven-card stud orbit. Shulman was showing three hearts and an ace high whereas the opponent had an 8-5 low draw.

Bonavida: {3-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{8-Spades} / {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Shulman: {7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{A-Hearts} / {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

A flush for Shulman won the high pot whereas Bonavida raked in the low portion of the chop.

The Deuce Plays

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Michael Moed out in 27th place.
Michael Moed out in 27th place.

Omaha Hi-Low

Thomas "Thunder" Keller opened for 10,000 from the hijack and was met by a three-bet to 15,000 from Michael Moed on the button. The blinds both folded, Keller called, and the flop came down {10-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{j-Clubs}. Keller checked, Moed bet 5,000, and Keller sprung to life with a check-raise to 10,000. Moed called and left himself just 4,000 back.

When the {2-Diamonds} appeared on the turn, Keller bet and Moed reluctantly called off.

Moed: {k-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Keller: {2-Spades}{q-Spades}{k-Hearts}{4-}

Moed seemed please to have gotten it in drawing live, but it didn't matter much as the {10-Hearts} blanked on the river. That mean Keller's deuce played and his jacks and deuces won the pot to send Moed home in 27th place.

Schneider & Walters Fall

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Julie Schneider on Day 1.
Julie Schneider on Day 1.

Omaha Hi-Low

Corey Hastings opened with a raise to 10,000 and Julie Schneider raised all in for 13,000 total. Tom Schneider flatted from the big blind and then called when Hastings made it 18,000. When the flop fell {10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}, Tom led out and Hastings called off his last 3,000.

Tom: {3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{j-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Julie: {a-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Hastings: {2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

The {5-Clubs} turn gave Hastings a wheel, which scooped the pot after the {4-Spades} peeled off on the river. Julie took her leave from the tournament in 29th place, but not before getting a consolatory hug from Tom.

Meanwhile, Bruce Walters preceded Schneider in 30th place.

Stanislav Gets No Love From The Dealer

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Stud Hi-Low

Andrew Kelsall and Stanislav Parkhomenko battled all the way until sixth where the Bulgarian got the remainder of his stack in with two pair. Kelsall had a pair as well as the low draw and did improve on seventh.

Kelsall: {3-Spades}{5-Diamonds} / {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} / {A-Clubs}
Parkhomenko: {7-Clubs}{9-Spades} / {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs} / {K-Diamonds}

On the first day of the tournament, Parkhomenko busted Phil Ivey and he takes home $6,490 for his 31st place finish.

It Is Getting Late

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Stud Hi-Low

Konstantin Puchkov completed to 5,000 with the {K-Hearts} showing and Robert Mizrachi did so as well with the {2-Spades}. Puchkov could not quite see the open cards of everyone and leaned over the table, suddenly all opponents jokingly picked up their cards and pointed it towards the Russian.

Then, Mizrachi bet until sixth and Puchkov check-called, on seventh he did one more time. The pot was chopped up and the cards rushed to the dealer when Mike Matusow said "I have to clean up my glasses, can't see anything." We can definitely say the table is having some fun, all other tables are silent and we hear laughter quite often from that one.

Puchkov: {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{10-Clubs} / {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Mizrachi: {2-Spades}{5-Spades}{J-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} / {2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

By the way, the Russian said before his call on seventh that he thought the opponent had deuces. Nice read there. Chop it up.

The Shark Has Been Hung Out to Dry

Humberto Brenes
Humberto Brenes

Omaha Hi-Low

Konstantin Puchkov raised to 10,000 from early position and Humberto Brenes defended from the big blind. When the flop came down {q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, Brenes led out for 5,000 and then called off his last 4,000 when Puchkov raised.

Brenes: {3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Puchkov: {a-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{6-Spades}

Puchkov was ahead with two pair and an ace-three low draw, but Brenes held a wrap. The Costa Rican was on his feet with his shark card protector telling the dealer to deliver him the right card (in broken English of course).

The dealer did not oblige on the {9-Spades} turn, nor on the {4-Clubs} river, which improved Puchkov to a full house with no qualifying low.

Brenes' 32nd-place finish marks his sixth cash of the 2014 WSOP, which is an impressive feat in and of itself.
