Nine Handed!

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

A sigh of relief and a rush to spread out around the table can be seen all over the Brasilia room now. The tournament director has announced we are now going to nine-handed play at all tables. The tournament clock shows 360 players remain so we are almost halfway to the money.

Guttman Guts Akkari

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

Mike Guttman openend to 1,200 from early position and action folded around to Andre Akkari in the small blind. Akkari announced all in, sliding his chips in the middle. Akkari's shove was barely enough for a min-raise, and Guttman had to put just another 800 in the middle to make the call.

Guttman: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Akkari: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The flop ran out {8-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{8-Hearts} giving Akkari a flush draw but the next two cards were dark, as the turn {5-Spades} and river {7-Clubs} sent Akkari to the rail and his last remaining chips over to Guttman.

Akkari Lays One Down

Level 8 : 200/400, 50 ante

Andre Akkari's reputation must be earning him respect at the table. He was given a walk in the big blind, and he laughingly flipped over two black aces and picked up the uncontested blinds and antes.

Later, on a board reading {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, Akkari had a bet of 3,300 in front of him and one other opponent in the hand to make the call. The river card was the {a-Spades} and Akkari checked. His opponent pushed all in for 7,000 and Akkari spent a minute of consideration before folding. The winner of the hand voluntarily showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for trip aces.

Kitty Cripples the Magician

Level 8 : 200/400, 50 ante
Kitty Kuo
Kitty Kuo

Kitty Kuo opened to 800, and action folded around to Antonio Esfandiari, who called in the big blind. The dealer fanned out a {6-Spades}{2-Spades}{9-Diamonds} flop, and Esfandiari check-raised a bet of 700 from Kuo, to 2,050. Kuo announced all in and Esfandiari thought for a moment before making the call, putting Kuo at risk.

Kuo: {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Esfandiari: {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

Kuo had flopped a set and had Esfandiari in big trouble. The turn and river {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} changed nothing and Kuo crippled Esfandiari with the double up.

Esfandiari has chipped up a small amount as he shoved preflop the next three hands, winning the blinds and antes.
