Day 2 of Event #31: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em will be getting under way at 1 p.m. today, and we're very close to the bubble when action resumes.

1,631 players passed through registration for this event on Day 1, and that number has been whittled down to just 187. With 171 places scheduled to be paid, we're just 16 bustouts away from the money.

The prize pool in this event is over $2.2 million, and the top spot will earn $418,435 along with the highly-coveted WSOP gold bracelet.

An Australian is leading the pack as players return to continue play today. Jason Pritchard bagged up the most chips last night when he sealed away 142,400 to play with today. Not far behind him is Kyle Weir with 130,000 and just six others who tipped the 100K mark.

Many familiar faces entered this tournament on Day 1, and many of them did not survive until the end of Level 11 when play was halted for the day. Of those who are still in this game, notables include Nenad Medic, Erik Cajelais, Ray Qartomy, Alex Bolotin, Vinny Pahuja, Ankush Mandavia, Adam Levy, Lauren Kling, Matt Stout, Ty Reiman, Dan Idema, Max Pescatori, and Jackie Glazier.

The players will play through 10 levels today, or until a final table is reached, whichever happens first.

Kuo Takes Early Exit

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Kitty Kuo has been eliminated.
Kitty Kuo has been eliminated.

We came across Kitty Kuo sitting on a very short stack. Michael Souza raised to 3,000 from under the gun and Kuo pushed 5,100 all in from the small blind. Souza made the easy call and flipped over the better hand: {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. Kuo needed to catch up with {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, but the board ran out {2-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and she was eliminated from the tournament.

Massive Call, Massive Pot for Gould

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Peter Gould made a huge call.
Peter Gould made a huge call.

At the turn with the board reading {8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and a pile of chips in the pot numbering about 25,000, Mike Del Vecchio had a bet of 12,200 sitting in front of him. Peter Gould raised him to 28,200 and Del Vecchio pushed all in for 85,200, covering Gould. It took a couple of minutes, but Gould eventually made the call, risking his tournament just a couple spots from the bubble, with ace-high to go with the pair on the board. However, it was better than Del Vecchio's king-high.

Del Vecchio: {k-Spades}{7-Spades}
Gould: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The river was the {q-Diamonds}, giving Gould the unnecessary two pairs, and his enormous call has now put him in the position of chip leader.

Goldberg Gets Gold from Gould

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Steve Goldberg
Steve Goldberg

We caught up with the hand on the turn with the board reading {4-Spades}{6-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and Peter Gould had raised to 20,000. Steven Goldberg pushed his stack in the middle and Gould made the call.

Gould: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Goldberg: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}

Gould had made the straight, but he was drawing dead to Goldberg's flush. Goldberg doubled up and Gould is still sitting comfortable with the largest stack in the room.

Weir Busts Del Vecchio

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Mike Del Vecchio has been eliminated.
Mike Del Vecchio has been eliminated.

Mike Del Vecchio pushed his last 12,400 chips into the middle when action folded to him on the button preflop. Kyle Weir sat on his left in the small blind and asked for a count. He made the call and flipped over {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}, exactly what Del Vecchio didn't want to see with {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. The board ran out {4-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Del Vecchio headed to the cashier to collect $3,170.

Adam Levy
Adam Levy

Vinny Pahuja raised to 5,300 from the hijack seat and found a call from Adam Levy in the big blind. The two of them went to a flop of {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{10-Hearts} and Levy check-called Pahuja's small bet of 5,000. The turn was the {5-Clubs} and both players checked. They also checked down the {3-Clubs} river and Levy turned up {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} to win the hand.

The Force of Fourcade

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Guillaume Fourcade's Star Wars collection.
Guillaume Fourcade's Star Wars collection.

Guillaume has reinforced his defenses since yesterday. His collection of Star Wars figurines has grown, presumably for the extra strength needed to get through a Day 2.

He just scooped a decent pot when he called a bet preflop and check-called a 7,000 bet on the flop of {j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{j-Hearts}. The turn was the {9-Spades} and both players checked. He led out big after the {k-Clubs} came down on the river, but his opponent folded. He showed {k-Diamonds} for a boat and stacked up his newly-acquired chips next to his Star Wars collection.

Qartomy Keeps Stacking

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Ray Qartomy
Ray Qartomy

We came across Ray Qartomy talking his opponent into a call on the river. "I always have it. You should always believe me." He got his call and he flipped over {a-}{k-} for top pair and pulled in the pot.

In the next hand, a player raised to 9,000 from middle position and Qartomy pushed his massive stack all in. Everyone folded to the pressure and he added more chips to his collection. He is the current chip leader by a large margin.

Friedman Knocks Out Pritchard

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Jason Pritchard has been eliminated.
Jason Pritchard has been eliminated.

The beginning-of-day chip leader has met his demise in this event. Jason Pritchard began the day with the biggest mound of chips and built it up throughout the day, but he just lost his stack to Perry Friedman, another player with a consistently-large stack since the beginning of the day.

The two of them got it all in preflop and we had a race.

Pritchard: {7-}{7-}
Friedman: {a-}{k-}

It looked as though Pritchard's pair would hold up, but a king fell on the river and Pritchard was eliminated.

Ruman Nanev Eliminated in 27th Place ($12,242)

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Rumen Nanev - 27th Place
Rumen Nanev - 27th Place

Ruman Nanev is the first casualty since the final 27 redraw after his {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts} couldn't hold against Rajaee Wazwaz's {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}.

Nanev's sixes remained good on the {8-Spades}{k-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop, but fell way behind on the {Q-Clubs} turn. The {2-Spades} river completed the hand and Nanev headed for the exits.
