Ivey and the Defending Champ Battle

Level 6
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Omaha 8

Phil Ivey started the day with one of the smallest stacks in the room, but he's started the upward trend after winning back-to-back pots versus defending champion Matthew Ashton.

On the first hand the flop had come {5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{9-Hearts} when Phil Ivey bet from the small blind and Matthew Ashton called. The turn was the {9-Spades}, Ivey bet again, and Ashton called once more. The river was the {7-Diamonds} and Ivey fired again, but this time he received no call.

The next hand was raised by Ashton before the flop and Ivey three-bet from the button. Ashton called and the flop brought out {4-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Ashton check-called a bet, after which the turn brought the {2-Hearts}. Ashton check-folded this time, and Ivey picked up two nice pots.
