Event #48: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low

Day 1 Started

Event #48: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Set to Start Soon

In less than an hour today at the 2014 WSOP, the first of two Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low events on the schedule will get underway as Day 1 of Event #48: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low will be starting. Last year, this event drew 936 players and it would ultimately be Jarred Graham prevailing over Marco Johnson to win the $255,942 first-place prize and gold bracelet.

In addition to Graham and Johnson, there were a number of notables who made deep runs last year. Barry Greenstein would finish in third place and Loni Harwood and Perry Green would join him at the final table. Also making the money were Leif Force, Jeff Lisandro, Mej Judah, Chris Bell, Matt Giannetti, Mike Matusow, David Sands, Owais Ahmed, Allen Cunningham, Jonathan Little, and Jason Mercier.

We expect several of those names to take place in the action here today — aside from Mercier, of course, who currently leads the Event #46: $50,000 Poker Players Championship. Players will be playing 10 levels, with a dinner break at the end of the sixth level. They will start with 4,500 in chips and one-hour levels.

PokerNews will be here throughout the day letting you know who is here, what their stacks look like, and who makes it through. Tune in to find out who is scooping the pots!

They keep filing in. When the tournament started there were just over 500 entrants. It's now up to 752. Registration is open until the end of the dinner break (right before the start of Level 7), so that number should approach the 900+ that the event has had the last two years.

Laak It Up

Level 2 : 25/50, 0 ante
Phil Laak
Phil Laak

We get to the table and there is a flop of {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{4-Hearts} with 300 in chips each in front of Phil Laak and the opponent to his immediate left. The dealer raked in the chips and put out a turn of {3-Hearts}. Laak led out for 600 and was called. The river was the {Q-Hearts} and this time Laak bet 1,500. His opponent thought for a moment before releasing his hand.

In 2011, Laak took fourth place in the $5,000 version of this event, taking home $133,377 for that finish. He's looking to add to the $1.049 million in career WSOP earnings he has thus far with a deep run in this event.
