Jacks Cracked

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

Eddy Sabat pushed all in after one shorty with less than 200 in chips fired it in and the player on the button made it 400.

The button folded and it was Sabat's {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} versus the shorty's {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. The flop fell {5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} giving the shorty additional outs and although the {k-Clubs} turn wasn't one of them, the {9-Diamonds} river was.

Stout Joins In

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

Matt Stout and a few others have joined the list of notables here in Event #55.

Stout also joined four other callers of an early position 75-chip raise. But when the flop fell {9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades} and the early position raiser made it 250 to see another card, Stout joined everyone else in folding.

Notables

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

Just a sprinkling of notables as the majority of the field has yet to take their seats and most tables are playing six to seven-handed.

Shuffle Up and Deal!

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

Tournament Director Jack Effel has gone over a few of the tournament rules, talked about a few WSOP.com promotions and made the call to shuffle up and deal. With that they're off and running with the board currently reading 1,468 entrants.

Event #55: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Set To Start

Reigning Champion Barny Boatman
Reigning Champion Barny Boatman

With the Monster Stack event now down under 600 players some space has been cleared for the World Series of Poker's latest $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event. And by all accounts, Event #55: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em is going to need it.

Like they have before and likely will again, thousands are expected to turn up for this three-day poker extravaganza with the game's most coveted prize on the line.

According to the WSOP, Brit Barny Boatman is the reigning champion in this one, having earned $546,080 and a WSOP bracelet by besting a field of some 2,247 runners last year.

The plan Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m., is to play no less than eleven 60-minute levels with a 20-minute break every two and a 90-minute dinner break after the sixth.

Players will start with the usual 4,500 in tournament chips and if previous incarnations of this same structure are any indication, the action should be white hot as they look to spin it up or go home in a hurry.

Of course, the PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand for it all in an attempt to provide chip counts and coverage of the key hands along the way. Stay tuned poker fans, it's about to go off again.
