Event #62: The $1,111 Little One for One Drop

Day 2 Completed

102 Players Advance to Day 3 of the 2014 Little One for One Drop

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Charbel Azzi leads with 514,000 in chips
Charbel Azzi leads with 514,000 in chips

A total of 885 players returned to the tables of the Amazon and Pavilion room for Day 2 of the $1,111 Little One for One Drop and the blinds resumed in level nine at blinds 300 - 600 with a running ante of 75. The bubble burst in the second level of play when Frank Yenigotchian couldn't improve with {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} against the {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} of Julian Parmann.

Nine levels of one hour each would be played before 102 participants bagged up chips over night and Charbel Azzi (514,000) was the only player to accumulate more than half a million in chips to end atop the leader board. In a crucial hand of level 15, Azzi eliminated Ludovic Geilich and increased his stack consistently throughout the rest of the day.

Hot on his heels are Alexander Ziskin (480,000), aforementioned Parmann (471,500) and Matthew Lapossie (458,000). Other notable names that made it through with an above-average stack include Maxim Panyak (335,500), Sergio Castelluccio (291,500), Salvatore Bonavena (255,000), Joep van den Bijgaart (249,500), Maurice Hawkins (236,000), Jose Carlos Garcia (234,500), Michael Tureniec (219,500) and Brian Pinkus (215,000).

Familiar faces on the circuit that busted before the money were for example Pierre Neuville, 2013 WPT Prague champion Julian Thomas, Lynn Gilmartin, Anna Khait, Ryan Laplante, Jennifer Tilly and Mike Sowers. Dan Heimiller, Goran Mandic, Xuan Liu, Amanda Musumeci, Carlos Mortensen and Shannon Shorr all fell in the first payout zone for $1,780 each.

Many other big names such as Antonio Esfandiari, Athanasios Polychronopoulos, Alex Bilokur, Willa Failla, Humberto Brenes, Dimitar Danchev and Annette Obrestad also cashed but won't be returning on Saturday when the action resumes at 1 p.m. Las Vegas time. The blinds continue at 3,000 - 6,000 with a running ante of 500.

All remaining players have $3,560 guaranteed and the eyes are set on the first-place payout of $637,539. The PokerNews live reporting will be on hand to bring you all the key action from the tables. It seems unlikely that a winner will already be crowned on Saturday and up to 10 levels of one hour each are scheduled.

Unlucky Turn and River for Castelluccio

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

The {2-Spades}{A-Spades}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts} was complete and an opponent was all in for 53,500 in chips. Sergio Castelluccio didn't have anything on the flop but made a backdoor full house with {8-Clubs}{9-Clubs} to call off. Unfortunately for the Italian, his opponent held {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} and slow-played the hand to get the maximum value.

Isolation from Shimelfarb

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Gennady Shimelfarb had a deep run in the Millionaire Maker earlier in the 2014 WSOP and may once again try to win the elusive bracelet. A short stack moved all in for 40,000 and Shimelfarb moved all in over the top to scare off all opponents.

The short stack held {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Shimelfarb dominated that with {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}. The {A-Spades}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop was no threat, but the {K-Spades} turn provided some outs with the flush draw. It wasn't meant to be for the short stack, who hit the rail once the {Q-Clubs} river completed the board.

Azzi Buzzin

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Charbel Azzi had been quite active and the biggest pot that vaulted him into the lead came in the previous level still. He called a raise from Peter Hong for 7,000 and the three-bet to 15,000 by another player with {10-Spades}{9-Spades} and found the {A-Clubs}{7-}{8-Clubs} flop.

The third player involved bet 16,000 and both Hong and Azzi called before all checked the {6-Clubs} on the turn. Azzi then bet 45,000 after the {8-} river and Hong called only to muck when shown the straight.

Azzi appears to be the only player above half a million at the moment with 116 players left.
