Pairs Aplenty

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

After a player brought it in, Ben Yu completed to 600 with an {8-} and another player raised 1,200 with a {5-} showing. Huck Seed, who had a {7-} out in front of him, made the call, the player that brought it in folded, and Yu came along to make it three-way action to fourth street.

Yu had the best hand showing but checked. The unknown player bet 600, both Seed and Yu called, and all three players saw fifth street. By now all three players held pairs, and the unknown player checked. Seed bet 1,200, Yu folded, and the other player called. Seed bet again on sixth, and this time it did the trick as his opponent released his hand.

Yu: (x-x) / {8-}{10-}{8-} fold
Seed: (x-x) / {7-}{7-}{9-}{5-}
Opponent: (x-x) / {5-}{5-}{j-}{q-}

Seed Cuts the Cheese

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

We picked up the action on fifth street between 1996 WSOP Main Event champ Huck Seed and WSOP APAC bracelet winner Jim "Mr_BigQueso" Collopy.

Seed: {2-}{7-} / {6-}{3-}{4-}{5-} / {7-}
Collopy: (x-x) / {4-}{3-}{9-}{X-} / {X-}

Unfortunately the dealer was a bit too fast and we couldn't get all the cards jotted down before they were swiped away. What we do know is that Seed made a 6-5-4-3-2 low and Collopy bricked out.

"Tomorrow you'll be glad you busted this little tournament," Seed joked after Collopy stated that he would return to the Rio for the Millionaire Maker. If Collopy manages to win it, Seed's words may well prove true.

Hot Start but a Fast End for Violette

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The day started off hot for WSOP bracelet winner Cyndy Violette, but it took a nasty turn here in Level 8.

"She just kept losing pots," Randy Ohel told us after we'd discovered Violette was no longer in her seat. "She had a six-draw on fourth but got three bricks."

Don't worry if you don't understand razz talk. The gist of what he was saying is that Violette has been eliminated from the tournament.

The 1983 WSOP Main Event Champ Falls to "Schifty"

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Tom McEvoy
Tom McEvoy

The day stated with quite a few former WSOP Main Event champs in the field, but one of them has just fallen in 1983 champ Tom McEvoy, who you may remember was the first satellite qualifier to win the "Big One."

We didn't pick up the action on the Poker Hall of Famer's final hand until fifth street, which is when he got the last of his chips in against Ron "Schifty" Schiffman.

"I'm not paired yet," McEvoy said optimistically.

"Me neither," Schiffman replied.

McEvoy: {5-}{3-} / {6-}{q-}{9-}{j-} / {q-}
Schiffman: {a-}{3-} / {6-}{k-}{9-}{10-} / {7-}

After sixth and seventh streets were run out, McEvoy ended with a jack-nine low while Schiffman made a nine-seven. A deflated McEvoy collected his things and exited the tournament just shy of the last break of the night.
