Haugen Doubles Through Cole

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Matthew Haugen
Matthew Haugen

After a series of raises before the flop, Matthew Haugen found himself all in and at risk for his last roughly 2.14 million against William Cole.

Cole: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Haugen: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

"Cole is calling for his one time," said the tournament director, "but I think this is the second time he's used it."

"I'm 70 years old!" replied Cole. "I don't have many one times left!"

The board ran out {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, however, ensuring that Haugen would ship the double up. He now has 4.415 million in chips while Cole's stack has dropped to 1.44 million.

"It's Like a Race"

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Ryan Fair
Ryan Fair

Ryan Fair raised on the button, Pfizer Jordan called in the big blind, and the two took a flop of {7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Jordan checked, Fair continued for 175,000, and Jordan check-raised to 420,000. Fair moved all in for 1.235 milion, and Jordan made the call.

Fair: {10-Spades}{8-Spades}
Jordan: {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

"It's like a race," Fair joked.

Fair needed some help to catch up, and the {10-Hearts} on the turn was just that. Suddenly he was ahead with tens and threes, and improved to tens and eights when the {8-Clubs} completed the board.

The dealer cut down the stacks, and Jordan was left with 160,000.

"Remember [Greg] Merson?" he said, smiling.

True enough, Merson was reduced was reduced to two big blinds in the 2012 WSOP Main Event before storming back and winning.

Newhouse's Card Splits in Half; Lunkin Doubles

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Mark Newhouse Doesn't Know His Own Strength
Mark Newhouse Doesn't Know His Own Strength

Vitaly Lunkin open-shipped all in for his last 240,000 and it folded over to Mark Newhouse who raised the action to 525,000. The floor was called, however, as one of Newhouse's cards split down the center, breaking it into two even pieces. The floor was informed that he was dealt the card whole and snapped when he squeezed it out to look at it. The ruling stood that he would continue the hand with his current card and it would be replaced after the hand.

The rest of the table folded, allowing the hands to be turned over.

Lunkin: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}
Newhouse: {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}

It was in fact the {10-Spades} that was split in half, and the crowed erupted with laughter after it was moved piece by piece into view of the camera. The board ran out {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}, ensuring that Lunkin would score the double up to 560,000. The ten of spades was replaced and play resumed as normal.

Brian Hastings Eliminated in 64th Place ($103,025)

Andrey Zaichenko opened for 110,000 from the cutoff only to have Iaron Lightbourne three-bet to 260,000 from the button. Brian "$stinger 88" Hastings then four-bet all in for 1.3 million from the small blind, and Zaichenko moved all in over the top to drive out Lightbourne.

Zaichenko: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Hastings: {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}

"I have been really good at all ins," Hastings said prior to the flop, which came down {9-Spades}{k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. Hastings paired his jack, but he was in dire straits as Zaichenko had flopped a set. "One out," Hastings said after the dealer had burned and turned the {J-Diamonds}. Indeed, the case jack would give Hastings the win, but it wasn't in the cards as the {A-Diamonds} blanked on the river.

"Well, I can tell my friends and family I lost with a full house," Hastings joked before taking his leave in 64th place for $103,025.

Daniel Wilson Eliminated in 65th Place ($103,025)

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Daniel Wilson - 65th place
Daniel Wilson - 65th place

From under the gun, Matt Waxman opened to 100,000 and Daniel Wilson called from the big blind.

Both players checked the {9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop before Wilson led for 130,000 when the turn landed the {J-Diamonds}. Waxman made the call, and when the {2-Hearts} landed on the river, Wilson bet out 250,000.

Waxman announced he was all in and Wilson made the call for his 490,000 total.

Wilson tabled his {K-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for second pair, but it would be Waxman's {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a wheel that would see him eliminate Wilson in 65th place for a $103,025 payday as Waxman climbs to 3 million in chips.

Chad Eveslage - 66th place

Chad Eveslage shoved all in for about 675,000 in the big blind over an open to 105,000 from William Tonking in middle position. Tonking called.

Tonking: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Eveslage: {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

Eveslage found some improvement on the {10-Spades}{k-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop with a pair of tens but he needed more. The {3-Spades} turn was a blank, as was the {5-Clubs} river.

Steven Bennett - 67th Place
Steven Bennett - 67th Place

Sean Dempsey raised to 125,000 in the small blind and Steven Bennett called from the big blind.

The flop fell {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Dempsey continued for 125,000. Bennett called, the {7-Clubs} turn fell and Dempsey bet 250,000. Bennett called again to see the {J-Hearts} river where Dempsey bet effectively 790,000. Bennett mulled it over for about 20 seconds before calling for his tournament life with {J-Clubs}{8-Spades}, but it was second best to Dempsey's {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades} for queens full of jacks.

Tony Ruberto Eliminated in 68th Place ($103,025)

Tony Ruberto
Tony Ruberto

It appeared Adam Lamphere opened with a raise from the under-the-gun position and Tony Ruberto three-bet jammed for 680,000 from middle position. Action folded back to Lamphere and he called.

Lamphere: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Ruberto: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Ruberto had found a pocket pair, but it was second best to Lamphere's ladies. The {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop gave Ruberto some backdoor straight options, but the {K-Diamonds} turn took them away. Ruberto needed an eight and an eight only on the river to keep his 2014 WSOP Main Event hopes alive, but it was not meant to be as the {3-Spades} blanked on the river.

Ruberto exited in 68th place for $103,025 while Lamphere, who began the day as the third shortest stack with 470,000 chipped up to 2.29 million.

Heads or Heads

Jeffrey Loiacono
Jeffrey Loiacono

Robert Park moved all in for effectively 1.02 million - a pot-sized bet - on a board of {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. With his Main Event tournament life on the line, Jeffrey Loiacono went into the tank.

He asked for a coin, wanting to flip for his decision, and Michael Kamran tossed a quarter across the table.

"You need a Batman quarter," Leif Force told him. "Two heads. Choose your own destiny."

Loiacono flipped the coin, didn't like the result, then flipped it again. He then stood up from the table.

"This spot is so sick," he said.

Finally, he put his index finger on one card and his middle finger on the other, slowly sliding them into the muck.

Chanracy Khun was all in for 1.18 million with the {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} against the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} for Felix Stephensen. The board ran out {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}, and Stephensen won the pot with a Broadway straight to eliminate Khun.

For Khun, this result marked the second largest of his live tournament career. In April of 2013, Khun took down the PartyPoker World Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event for €181,400 ($232,487). He now has over $500,000 in live earnings.
