Event #16: $1,500 "Millionaire Maker" No-Limit Hold'em

Day 1b Completed

Villa Thrives as 3,928 Players Turn Out for Day 1b of Millionaire Maker

Day 1b of Millionaire Maker saw 3,928 players take to the felt, which along with Day 1a's 3,347 brought the total field to 7,275 entries, a bit shy of last year's 7,977 mark. Still, a hefty $9,821,250 prize pool was created, of which $1,277,193 is reserved for the eventual winner.

Alexander Villa is the man from the second starting flight best positioned to make a run at the top prize after bagging 180,500 in chips. Others who bagged up big stacks were Charles Sewell (177,800), Svjatoslavs Melnikovs (168,700), Nicholas Rocha (157,300), and Sean Eichendorf (143,100), just to name a few.

Other notables still in contention include The Colossus champ Cord Garcia (80,400), David "Doc" Sands (62,700), Shannon Shorr (47,200), and David Vamplew (42,500).

Vamplew got a good chunk of his chips in Level 6 after he and Wisconsin native Dan Almerli, who was playing in his first-ever WSOP event, played a big pot with the board reading {j-}{j-}{8-}{7-}. Almerli's stack of approximately 15,000 found its way into the middle, and his {8-}{8-} full house had him out in front of Vamplew's {j-}{k-}. Unfortunately for the rookie, a {K-} on the river put an end to his Millionaire Maker experience.

Others to fall on Day 1b were Bryan Campanello, Barry Greenstein, Ryan Riess, Jackie Glazier, Dan Shak, Fabrice Soulier, Scott Davies, and Ludovic Geilich.

Approximately 1,100 players from the combined flights will return for Day 2 action at 11 a.m. local time on Sunday on their way to the money.

It's another big no-limit hold'em event on the schedule today for the WSOP, with the second starting flight of Event #16: $1,500 "Millionaire Maker" No-Limit Hold'em at a nice-and-early 10 a.m. With $1 million guaranteed to the winner, this event is set to attract plenty of dreamers, top pros, and everything in between.

The defending champion is Jonathan Dimmig, who topped a field of 7,977 entries to win more than $1.3 million last year. Dimmig played Day 1a and bagged up 75,800 in chips. In 2013, the first year this event was held, Benny Chen topped 6,343 entries to score just shy of $1.2 million.

Players in the field will begin with 7,500 in chips, and this is the last of the two starting flights. Those eliminated on Day 1a have the option to reenter on Day 1b.
