McNeil Scoops One Early

Level 1 : 100/200, 0 ante
Calen McNeil
Calen McNeil

Omaha Hi-Lo

Calen McNeil was in the cutoff and heads-up with his opponent on the button. The board came {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} with McNeil leading out every street. His opponent called all the way to the river, then McNeil tabled {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. His ace-three beat his opponent's deuce-three for the low and his ace-queen high was the best high hand as well.

A couple of WSOP bracelet winners, Andrew Barber and Ivo Donev, have also joined the field. Barber won the 2015 $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. event while Donev won the 2000 $1,500 Omaha event.

Another day and another mixed game event is ready to start inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino for the 2018 World Series of Poker. Today marks the opening day of Event #15: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E., the first of three H.O.R.S.E. events on tap for the summer. It will be followed by the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. event starting on June 12 and the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. event on July 12 to cap off the "Triple Crown" of the series.

Last year's champion David Singer will likely be back to defend his title run when he outlasted 736 entrants and took home the first-place prize of $203,709. It was Singer's second WSOP gold bracelet, his first coming back in 2008. He managed to defeat other multiple bracelet winners on the final day including Max Pescatori, Brandon Shack-Harris, Ian Johns, Richard Ashby, James Richburg, and David "Bakes" Baker.

The action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. PDT at which point players will take their seat with 7,500 chips. The blind levels will be 60-minutes in length with a total of 10 levels on tap for Day 1. There will be a 20-minute break after every two levels and a 75-minute dinner break after Level 6 (~5:40 p.m.). Late registration will remain open for eight levels (~9:15 p.m.) but there will be no re-entries available for those eliminated early on.
