Vieira Suffers Nasty Bad Beat

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Joao Vieira (as seen in a previous event)
Joao Vieira (as seen in a previous event)

Joao Vieira was in a three-way pot on the flop of {2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. A player fired 700 from an early position and received a call from an opponent in a middle position. Vieira then raised to 2,550 in the cutoff.

The initial aggressor kept pushing and four-bet to what was believed to be announced as 7,800. The middle player folded but Vieira paused for a bit and then shoved. He was called instantly to learn some great news as his {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} was miles ahead against the {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}.

The turn card, however, was the {2-Hearts}, giving Vieira's opponent quads and Vieira wasn't able to pick up a nine on the river. He had to ship 18,625 the opposite way and dropped to 10,000 instead of pumping his stack early into the tournament.

Stout Gets a River Raise Through

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

From the hijack, Matt Stout raised to 400 and action folded around to the big blind who called.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades} and the big blind checked to Stout who bet 350. The big blind called.

Both players checked on the {6-Hearts} turn to see the {7-Clubs} on the river. There, the big blind led out with a bet of 1,100. Stout thought for a second, then raised, making it 3,100. His opponent thought for a bit, then released his hand, allowing Stout to take down the pot.

After the hand, Niall Farrell joined the table.

Kornuth Talks Himself into the Right Call

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Chance Kornuth opened with a raise to 300 before a player on the button made it 1,200. Action folded back to Kornuth.

"You gonna lay it down for that much?" the player asked Kornuth.

"I'll draw," Kornuth said putting in the chips to call.

The flop was {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and both players checked to see the {8-Spades} on the turn. Kornuth led out for 1,800 and his opponent called.

On the {J-Spades} river, Kornuth bet again, this time making it 2,850. His opponent thought for a bit, then raised, making it 6,000 total. Kornuth took a look down at his cards and laughed.

"You just have ace-queen here?" Kornuth said. "I feel like I have this but I don't know."

Kornuth tanked for a bit then said, "Ok, I'll give it to you buddy," and called.

"Do I have to show," Kornuth's opponent asked. He showed the {2-Diamonds} only. Kornuth turned up his {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and collected the pot though as the player never showed his other card.

There was 850 in the pot as Calvin Anderson faced off against two opponents from the blinds. He checked his option and his two opponents also checked behind on a flop of {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{4-Clubs}

The turn was the {K-Diamonds} and Anderson checked as did one other player before the cutoff put out a bet of 650. Anderson called while the other player folded.

On the {4-Spades} river, both players checked.

"I just have a king," Anderson said showing {K-Spades}{2-Clubs}. It was good and he took down the pot.

Housemates in Action

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

From Benelux, former November Niner Kenny Hallaert and online World Champion Steven van Zadelhoff are both in their seats.

While van Zadelhoff resides in Malta and Hallaert in the United Kingdom, both of them still belong to the Dutch-Belgian poker community.

The top two European grinders share housing here in Las Vegas during the World Series of Poker, and it might as well be one of the most decorated houses in town.

Poker power couple Alex Foxen and Kristen Bicknell are also staying with Hallaert and van Zadelhoff, adding numerous accolades to the table including Bicknell's two bracelets.
