Staszko Not Happy with Fan

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

The flop read {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} and there was about 78,000 in the middle already. Both Terry Fan in the big blind and Martin Staszko in early position had checked.

The turn brought them the {6-Spades}. Fan check-raised the 30,000 bet of Staszko to 94,000. Staszko considered it for a bit and then called.

The river completed the board with the {q-Diamonds}. Fan now bet 350,000 and Staszko looked bewildered. He went through all his options in his head, glanced at Fan several times, and then reluctantly folded.

Moorman Quickly Dispatched

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Chris Moorman
Chris Moorman

Chris Moorman opened in early position with a raise to 26,000 and he was called by one player before Matthew Davidow moved all in with a covering stack from the small blind. Moorman thought for a bit before calling and the other player in the hand folded.

Chris Moorman: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Matthew Davidow: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

Moorman was well in the lead but the {8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop brought things a bit closer in Davidow's favor. The {6-Spades} on the turn was a blank but the river was the {Q-Diamonds} and that gave Davidow the flush, sending Moorman to the rail in 60th place. He will collect $9,616 for his run in this event.

Sleet Pays Off Addamo

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Picking up the action on the river with the board showing {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and more than 300,000 already in the pot, Michael Addamo put out a bet of 325,000 which sent Mark Sleet into the tank.

"I'm trying to think of what I could beat here," Sleet said thinking through the hand.

Eventually, he plopped in the chips to call, but was dismayed to see Addamo's {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for the ace-high flush. Sleet flashed his {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} before sending it into the muck and Addamo took down the big pot.

Goff Kicks Things Off With a Four-Bet

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

From middle position, Dustin Goff opened with a raise to 27,000. Action folded to Mike Azzaro in the hijack seat who put in a three-bet, making it 82,000.

Action folded to the button where Jiandong Xu dropped into the tank. He thought for a couple minutes with his short stack before someone at the table called the clock on him. As his time ticked down, he eventually decided to fold.

Action folded back to Goff who asked Azzaro for a count, before eventually deciding to put in a four-bet to 265,000. Azzaro pitched his hand away quickly and Goff took down the pot with no showdown.

"What did you have?" someone at the table asked Xu.

"Two cards," Xu responded.

Paur, Morgenstern, and Jacobson Aiming for Day 4 of THE MARATHON

Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Welcome back to the penultimate day of Event #24: $2,620 THE MARATHON No-Limit Hold’Em where 60 players remain in the hunt for the bracelet. Day 4 will start at 12 noon local time and WSOP bracelet winner, Taylor Paur, who bagged 2,958,000 in chips took the top spot in the chip counts last night which equals around 248 big blinds. This will be Paur’s fourth and biggest cash up till now for this summer at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino as he sets his sights on that first-place prize of $653,581 and another gold WSOP bracelet.

Second in the chip counts is Anton Morgenstern with 1,775,000 which is a gap of almost 100 big blinds to Paur. The German had deep runs in the Main Events of 2013 and 2015, making it all the way to the final three tables. For Mark Sleet, who tagged 1,550,000 in chips last night, this will be his biggest WSOP cash to date. After a deep run in Event #13, the Big Blind Antes tournament, he will be looking to better that result.

Main Event Champion and 888poker ambassador Martin Jacobson (811,000) has great company with fellow Main Event Champion Scotty Nguyen (483,000), and fellow 888poker ambassador Chris Moorman (445,000). Other notable players to keep an eye on include Jonas Mackoff (1,356,000), Javier Fernandez (1,320,000), Michael Hada (1,236,000), Michael Addamo (1,096,000), Matt Affleck (884,000), Julien Sitbon (868,000), and Stoyan Obreshkov (769,000) who have all bagged above the average chip count.

For players like Javier Zarco (628,000), Cate Hall (574,000), Ivan Deyra (558,000), Martin Staszko (516,000), Jonathan Abdellatif (492,000), Bart Lybaert (483,000), Faraz Jaka (429,000), Lexy Gavin (405,000), Lee Markholt (376,000), and Christian Pham (211,000), they still have some work ahead of them today.

The schedule for today features seven 100-minute levels of play with a 15-minute break after each level. After the fourth level, a 60-minute dinner break will take place. When the 60 remaining players return for play today at noon local time, they will play Level 19 which feature a small blind of 6,000, big blind of 12,000 and a running ante of 2,000.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor from the start to provide you with all the updates from THE MARATHON, so stick around.
