Matusow Walks the Talk

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 200 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Mike Matusow: {x-}{x-} / {6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} / {x-}
Mikko Hirvonen: {x-}{x-} / {8-Spades}{3-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} / {x-}
Brian Hastings: {x-}{x-} / {a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{k-Clubs} (folds on fifth)

Mike Matusow limped in along with Mikko Hirvonen and then they both called when Brian Hastings completed. On fourth, the action checked to Hirvonen who tossed in a bet and was called by both players.

Matusow was the first to bet on fifth, only to have Hirvonen raise and Hastings quickly mucked his cards. Matusow thought for a moment and then called. On sixth, Matusow led out again with four cards to a straight flush on his board. Hirvonen called and on seventh, Matusow pretended it was the first time he noticed how strong his hand looked.

"Oh, I have six, seven, eight, nine of diamonds. Almost a straight flush."

Matusow then proceeded to toss in a bet and sat with his tongue out in anticipation of what Hirvonen was going to do. Hirvonen just called and Matusow revealed {8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for a flush and an eight-low. Hirvonen looked back at his cards and then sent them all to the muck, sending the entire pot to Matusow.

Ten Saves Deeb from Getting Scooped

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 200 ante
Shaun Deeb
Shaun Deeb

Shaun Deeb: {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} / {10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} / {K-Diamonds}
Brian Goddard: {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} / {7-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} / {5-Spades}

Shaun Deeb and Brian Godard were on fifth street where Deeb bet and Goddard raised. Deeb looked at his opponent's remaining stack and three-bet, allowing a sequence of further bets so that Goddard ended up all in.

Deeb had buried jacks and hit trips on sixth but Goddard was ahead as he showed eight-six to fill in the gaps on his board.

"You got a straight? Well played," Deeb said, knowing that he'd need help to claim half of the pot. He got one in the {10-Hearts} that landed on his board on sixth, giving him full house.

Matusow Scoops Hastings

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Mike Matusow: {3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} / {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Brian Hastings: {X-}{X-}{X-} / {A-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Jeff Madsen: {X-}{X-} / {8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} - fold

Brian Hastings completed and Jeff Madsen and Mike Matusow both called. The famous trio continued to fourth where Matusow paired his four. He checked and so did Hastings, but Madsen bet out, earning two calls.

Matusow and Hastings both received a six on fifth street and Matusow led out. Hastings called with a low board but Madsen paused for quite some time. Then he turned his cards upside down and sent them to the dealer.

Matusow's board double-paired and he bet again, earning one more call from Hastings. They tapped the river and Matusow showed {3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for the open two pair and no low. Hastings didn't make a low either and mucked.

Kassela Hits a Heavy Board

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Frank Kassela: {X-}{X-} / {5-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}
James Williams: {X-}{X-} / {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

Frank Kassela completed and two players came along to fourth street: James Williams, whose board hit a pair of eights, and Nicholas Kiley, who gave up after catching a nine.

Kassela bet on fourth and Williams called with his pair, getting a king on fifth. Kassela's board kept improving as he spiked yet another wheel card. He barreled and Williams figured out that it was the right time to let his hand go.

Second Place Is No Good for Lake

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Philip Sternheimer: {x-}{x-} / {3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds} / {x-}
John Urpsis: {x-}{x-} / {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{9-Spades} / {x-}
Patrick Lake: {x-}{x-} / {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{k-Clubs} / {x-}

Picking up the action on fourth street, Patrick Lake had the betting lead and tossed in a bet. Philip Sternheimer raised it up and John Urpsis just called. Lake three-bet and Sternheimer quickly four-bet. Urpsis still called and Lake was all in for 3,900.

Sternheimer and Urpsis checked it down afterward and tabled their cards. Sternehimer showed {7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a seven low and Urpsis held {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for a pair of aces. Lake was left with a pair of sixes and an eight low, only good enough for the second-best high hand and the second-best low hand. Sternheimer and Urpsis chopped the pot while Lake was sent to the rail.

Wong and Opie Chop Abrams' Chips

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Jerry Wong: {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} / {4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
James Opie: {Q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{9-Clubs} / {9-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{3-Hearts}
Scott Abrams: {X-}{X-}{X-} / {5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{K-Clubs}{5-Spades} - fold

Jerry Wong bet on fourth street with two wheel cards out, earning three callers. One of them was a player with deuces out but he gave up on fifth where Wong fired, catching a pair of fours. Scott Abrams and James Opie stuck around before Opie fired on both sixth and seventh. Wong called off for his last few hundreds on the river while Abrams couldn't pull the last call.

Opie had just a pair of nines but it was good to claim a half of the pot as Wong didn't have anything but a pair of fours. However, Wong made a low on the river and took the bottom half to stay afloat.

Elezra and Stein Chop a Massive Pot

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Eli Elezra: {x-}{x-} / {j-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} / {x-}
Jan Stein: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{2-Diamonds} / {x-}
Alex Livingston: {x-}{x-} / {3-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} / {x-}
Scott Clements: {x-}{x-} / {k-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{10-Diamonds} - fold on sixth

With four players still in the hand on sixth street and the majority of their boards fairly wet, there was bound to be a lot of action. It started with Eli Elezra who had the betting lead and led out with a bet. Jan Stein called and Alex Livingston raised. Scott Clements only had 1,000 chips remaining but elected to fold with all of the action in front of him.

Elezra three-bet and Stein four-bet all in for 9,400. Livingston opted to just call but Elezra wasn't done there as he five-bet to create a side pot with Livingston. On seventh, Elezra bet in the dark and Livingston called. Elezra turned over {9-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} for a full house to take the high hand. Stein had a low hand with {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and Livingston was forced to muck his cards.

Scott Clements was eliminated in the next hand while Elezra took over the current chip lead.
