Welcome to PokerNews' Day 1 coverage of Event #5: $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller.

It's only the third day of the 2018 World Series of Poker, but millions of dollars will be on the line as the only six-figure buy-in event of the WSOP summer kicks off later today at 3 p.m.

While officially considered a new event, this event is similar to the $111,111 High Roller for One Drop, which has run four times previously. With The Big One for One Drop - $1,000,000 No-Limit Hold'em set to close out the WSOP schedule in mid-July, this event is running without "The Big One" designation.

Still, a world-class field of poker's best is expected to take part in the action. Here are the previous winners of the past WSOP High Roller designated events:

YearBuy InEntriesPrize PoolChampionPrize
2013$111,111166$17,891,148Anthony Gregg$4,830,619
2015$111,111135$14,249,925Jonathan Duhamel$3,989,985

2017$111,111130$13,722,150Doug Polk$3,686,865

Worth noting is that de facto defending champion Doug Polk is not expected to be in the field.

The Day 1 schedule calls for nine levels to be played with a 60-minute dinner break after Level 4. Players are allowed one re-entry, and registration remains open until the beginning of Level 12 on Day 2. Players begin with a starting stack of 500,000, the entire tournament will be played with a Shot Clock, and it will also implement a Big Blind Ante structure.

Here is a look at the structure for Day 1:

Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Koray Aldemir raised it up from middle position and Stephen Chidwick three-bet to 27,000 from the cutoff. The action folded back to Aldemir who made the call and the dealer fanned the flop of {10-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades}. Peters Springs a River Trap

Level 3 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
David Peters
David Peters

Steffan Sontheimer had what looked like a three-bet in front of him before David Peters put in a cold-four bet to 62,000. Action folded back around to Sontheimer who called making heads-up action.

The flop was {A-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and both players checked. They checked again on the {4-Spades} turn.

The river was the {4-Diamonds} and Sontheimer opted to lead out, betting 35,000. Peters thought for a while, tanking through his 30-second time bank as well as most of one extension before announcing a raise and making it 150,000. Sontheimer thought for almost his full 30 seconds before letting his hand go.

"Did you have aces, David?" Sontheimer asked.

Peters smirked and raked in the pot.

Negreanu Heads to the Rail at the Hands of Aido

Level 4 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu was on a short stack and he opened on the button with a raise to 10,000. Sergio Aido was in the small blind and he three-bet to 34,000. Action was back on Negreanu and he moved all in for right around 110,000. Aido snap-called.

Daniel Negreanu: {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Sergio Aido: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

"No good," Negreanu said upon seeing the hands. "Ace is coming."

The flop didn't have an ace in it though when it fell {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}.

"Ok, diamonds coming," Negreanu said.

The turn was the {8-Diamonds}.

"Or straight coming," Negreanu said upon picking up a slew of outs.

The river was the {10-Hearts} though, and Negreanu missed everything, making only a pair that was no good.

"Ok everyone, time for a break," Negreanu said heading out the door.

Aido took down the pot and moved back over starting stack.

Blake Bohn
Blake Bohn

Blake Bohn raised from under the gun, Cary Katz called from the next seat over, and Nick Petrangelo three-bet to 37,000 from the hijack. Bohn four-bet shoved for 198,000, Katz folded, and Petrangelo called.

Bohn showed {A-Spades}{K-Spades}, while Petrangelo turned over {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The board ran out {9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{J-Spades}{6-Spades}, giving Bohn an ace-high flush to double through Petrangelo.

"I'd have won the pot if he folded," said Katz.

"You mean if he had a seizure and folded?" joked Petrangelo, getting a few laughs from the table.

Johannes Becker
Johannes Becker

Igor Kurganov raised to 10,000 in the cutoff and Johannes Becker three-bet to 46,000 from the small blind. Kurganov called and the flop fell {k-Hearts}{10-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Becker led out for 30,000 and Kurganov made the call.

The turn brought the {3-Clubs} and Becker bet another 120,000 which Kurganov still called. The {10-Clubs} paired the board on the river and Becker slowed down with a check this time. Kurganov thought for a minute before announcing a bet of 390,000. Becker wasted little time before placing a couple chips in the pot to signify a call. Kurganov flashed the {a-Spades}{j-Spades} and Becker tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for two pair.

With that pot, Becker soared towards the top of the leaderboard while Kurganov was left with under 30,000 chips and busted shortly therafter.
