Mazza Makes it Happen On the River

Level 23 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Francisco Torrecillas has been on a heater to start the day and was looking like he was going to breach the one million mark until this last hand.

Torrecillas opened to 32,000 from under the gun and Mark Mazza moved all in for 296,000 from the hijack. Torrecillas snap-called and the players then turned over their hands, with Mazza at risk of elimination.

Mark Mazza: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Francisco Torrecillas: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

The flop came down {10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and Mazza said "Come on, jack!" The turn was not that as the {6-Clubs} landed, but the river indeed came the {j-Hearts} that Mazza was looking for. Torrecillas shook his head as Mazza's rivered straight took down the pot for a double-up.

Andy Phan Eliminated in 20th Place ($8,541)

Level 23 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Andy Phan
Andy Phan

Jamie O'Connor opened to 32,000 from the button and Andy Phan moved all in for 124,000 from the small blind. O'Connor made the call and the players then turned over their hands.

Jamie O'Connor: {j-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Andy Phan: {a-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

The flop was good for Phan as the dealer fanned out {j-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and he was ahead with his aces. When the {q-Diamonds} landed on the turn it was O'Connor who took the lead and the {6-Spades} on the river changed nothing as it stayed that way.

O'Connor took down the pot and is now above his Day 3 starting stack for the first time today.

Jacob Phillips Eliminated in 21st Place ($8,541)

After losing some chips earlier, Ryan Leng has pulled some back in the last hand.

Jay Farber kick started the action by opening to 35,000 and Jacob Phillips three-bet to 101,000. It folded round to Ryan Leng who upped it again, enough to put Phillips all-in. With Farber out of the way, Phillips made the call and he was the player who needed to hit with his tournament life on the line.

Ryan Leng: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Jacob Phillips: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The {k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades} hit for Leng and Phillips was in some trouble with two cards to come. The {3-Spades}{10-Spades} turn and river sealed it up for Leng and Phillips hit the rail in 21st.

Javier Gomez
Javier Gomez

On a {4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop. Ryan Leng was first to act. He checked, as did Javier Gomez. On the {k-Spades} turn, Leng checked to Gomez, who made it 50,000 to go further. Leng called and the river came a {j-Spades}. Leng checked for the last time and Gomez made it 175,000.

Leng went into the tank, but eventually he made the call. Leng mucked, however, on seeing that Gomez held {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts} in his hand.
