Dragon Out Before Break

Level 4 : 300/600, 0 ante

Badugi

In a four-way four-bet pot, a player on the button patted all the way while short-stacked David "Dragon" Pham drew one the whole way. He ended up all-in after the second draw with two other players still competing for a side pot.

Pham eventually got there, showing {A-Clubs}{2-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} but his seven-badugi could beat only the player on the button who had nine-badugi. Unfortunately for Pham, the remaining player showed {A-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts} for the third nuts.

Strelitz Finds a Double

Daniel Strelitz
Daniel Strelitz

Badugi

Daniel Strelitz raised in the cutoff and an opponent on the button called. Strelitz drew one and his opponent two. Strelitz bet and was met with another call. This time, Strelitz patted and his opponent took two. Strelitz bet again and was met with a raise. He thought awhile and then put all his chips in, 1,775. The player on the button called and Strelitz patted a final time.

The player on the button thought long and hard before pulling a final card. Strelitz spread his {q-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} on the felt for a queen-badugi. His opponent rolled {3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Spades} for a nut three-card drawing to a diamond. He turned over the {8-Clubs} and Strelitz doubled up.

Franklin Crippled by Akkari

Level 4 : 300/600, 0 ante

A-5 Triple Draw

With the action seen in the showdown, Tom "Captain" Franklin had only 100 left behind. Andre Akkari had rolled up his Nine and Franklin had {A-}{4-}{3-}{2-} in front of him. He was sweating the last card, hoping to peel a nine or lower.

But it was another four instead, pairing his hand and shipping the pot Akkari's side.

Two hands later, Franklin quadrupled up after making ten-high badugi. But the blinds were coming to Franklin and he couldn't survive.

Baxter Survives

Level 4 : 300/600, 0 ante

Badugi

We found Billy Baxter all in and drawing one on every pull against an opponent doing the same. At showdown, Baxter's opponent turned over a three-card eight. Baxter showed {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{a-Spades} for the nut three-card eight.

"I didn't think my hand was worth two cents," the poker legend said with a laugh.

"For your tournament life!" someone said.

"My tournament life was heading to the cashier's cage."

2-7 Triple Draw

Allen Kessler raised in the small blind and called when Jake Schwartz made it two bets. Both players took two. Kessler check-called and was behind on the second draw taking two again. He check-called again and both players drew one.

"You have a chance, Allen," Schwartz said with a smile.

"I never win these," "Chainsaw" responded.

It went check-check on the end and Schwartz announced an ace. Kessler rolled over {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}.

"You won it," Schwartz said. "First time."

Kelsall Unlucky to Chop

Level 4 : 300/600, 0 ante

2-7 Triple Draw

A three-way pot saw Andrew Kelsall bet after the first draw. Carol Fuchs raised and a third player made it three bets. Both Kelsall and Fuchs called.

Kelsall stood pat, Fuchs drew one and the last player patted. It got checked to the player in position who bet and then Kelsall check-raised. While Fuchs was contemplating her decision, the third player accidentally made his turn and announced he was calling.

"Take a deep breath," Kelsall said. Fuchs folded and they went to the last draw.

Kelsall patted again but the third player figured out his hand wasn't strong enough and drew one.

Kelsall bet, earning a call. They both turned up the {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} to split the pot.

"Nice play," Kelsall said.

"This is luck," the other player replied.

Then Fuchs joined the debate. "I don't know how you got it," she said, pointing out that her hand blocked some of the cards.

Ross Trying Again

Level 4 : 300/600, 0 ante

Badugi

"East Coast" Mike Ross busted out his first shell in short order but took a seat in Tan section for his second and final bullet. One of the first hands he played, Ross raised in the small blind and the big blind was short and put the rest of his chips in. Ross called and each player drew one until the end, when the big blind was pat.

The big blind rolled over jack-badugi and Ross showed {3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} before turning over his last card: {10-Spades} for a better badugi.
