Ferguson Wins Three-Way Pot

Chris Ferguson raised in the first position and Johannes Becker called behind him. Timothy Mcdermott came along from the big blind.

Mcdermott drew two while Ferguson and Becker took one each. Ferguson bet and earned two calls.

Becker and Mcdermott wanted to change one but Ferguson patted his made hand and continued betting. Both of his opponents were interested in the last draw and called, changing one card again.

The last street was checked through and Ferguson opened {A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{3-Spades}{10-Clubs} for the victory.

Jason Riesenberg raised on the button, Carlos Rodriguez made it two bets and Brian Hastings made it three. Everyone went to the draw with Hastings pat and the other players taking cards that we didn't catch. Hastings kept the lead and got two more calls. He stayed pat while Rodriguez took one and Riesenberg two. Only Riesenberg continued to the last draw, taking a final card.

"Go ahead," Hastings said.

Riesenberg turned over the {10-Spades}.

"Ten-dugi?" Hastings asked.

Riesenberg said something that must have been in the negative because Hastings turned over {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}.

Shak Gets Paid with Nuts

With action caught after the third draw, Billy Baxter bet into a sizeable pot and Dan Shak raised. Baxter couldn't convince himself to fold and paid Shak off. Shak rolled over {A-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for the nuts and claimed the pot.

"I should've raised pre," Shak said, mumbling something about having started with ace-deuce-three.

Owen Forces a Fold From Patted Hand

On the button, Adam Owen three-bet over a raise from early position. His opponent called and then patted while Owen drew one. Owen's opponent led out but Owen raised and that was enough to win as his opponent gave up.

A-5 Triple Draw

Calvin Anderson came back with a short stack and his belongings were just halved. Anderson has fewer than three big bets left after a confrontation against Bryce Yockey.

With action seen after the draws, Yockey raised Anderson's bet with about 15,000 already in the middle. Anderson reluctantly called and Yockey turned up {A-}{2-}{3-}{5-}{6-}, crippling Anderson to just 5,500.

Chris Vitch took a card on the first draw in the small blind and Aron Dermer took two on the button. Ahead in the draw, Vitch bet and received a call. He was pat while Dermer took two and then one as Vitch continued betting. On the final round, though, Dermer raised. Vitch thought awhile and folded.

Stacked Field Returns for Day 2 of $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw Event

First introduced in 2016, the $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw Lowball event is now making its third appearance on the packed WSOP schedule. This year is different with a single re-entry allowed and many all-round grinders have used it to their benefit, firing twice to try again in the event combining 2-7 Triple Draw, A-5 Triple Draw and Badugi. One such player was Randy Ohel who busted his first bullet to return to the same seat and grind his way up.

Ohel peaked higher than at the 52,700 he eventually bagged but he's still above the virtual average line. Day 1 saw 95 players bag their advancing stacks, from a total of 321 registrations. And what a talented field is left. The heavily stacked lineup offers a tremendous sweat for all the poker aficionados who have been putting up their teams in various fantasy leagues.

Florida's George Trigeorgis may have been flying under the radar so far but now he's eyeing his WSOP breakthrough result, having bagged the lead. Trigeorgis, who has 99,400, is a hair ahead of Dennis Eichhorn (96,800) and Jesse Hampton (92,100). Scrolling down the chip-count page will get you through a nearly endless list of widely accomplished mixed game stars.

Jon Turner had a strong finish last night, also pushing his stack past the 90,000-chip mark. Then there are Brian Hastings, Billy Baxter, Nick Pupillo, Bryce Yockey, Jameson Painter, and last year's runner-up James Obst.

If that wasn't enough there are plenty more names to be added to that list. High stakes crusher Scott Seiver and former Poker Players' Championship winner Ashton Griffin are also on the better side of the leaderboard, followed by John Monnette, Ismael Bojang, Shaun Deeb, Shawn Buchanan, Jerry Wong, Mike Leah, David "ODB" Baker and others.

Undoubtedly an exceptionally tough competition is coming back for Day 2, the day which will see the bubble burst. With 49 places paid, there are still 46 names that won't make it to the money.

It will be a tough quest for the reigning champion Jesse Martin who sits on the third-shortest stack with 9,400, or, in other words, four big bets. Chris Vitch, the inaugural champ from 2016, is also near the bottom with only 12,400.
