Hanson Calls With King-High

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Isaac Hanson raised from the button to 20,000 and big blind Bryan Wienhoff defended his big blind.

The flop fell {a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and both players checked to see the {10-Clubs} turn. They checked again and the {3-Diamonds} river completed the board.

Wienhoff decided to lead out on the river with a bet of 28,000 and Hanson flicked in a call.

Wienhoff opened up {q-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Hanson had called with {k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}.

Ruiz Busts Contreras

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Jeramie Contreras jammed for 33,000 from the hijack, and action folded to Jorge Ruiz in the big blind.

"You don't have to call every hand," Contreras told Ruiz with a grin. Ruiz shrugged, then splashed in a call.

Jeramie Contreras: {k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Jorge Ruiz: {6-Clubs}{3-Spades}

Ruiz's live cards added a gutshot straight draw on the {q-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop. He bricked the {9-Hearts} turn, but the {6-Spades} river gave Ruiz a winning pair of sixes, sending a frustrated Contreras out of his seat and off to get paid.

Ruiz Eliminates Janiga

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Jorge Ruiz, a poker dealer at Montego Bay casino in Wendover, Nevada, raised under the gun to 21,000 and it folded all the way around to Brett Janiga in the big blind. He took his time to count out not only a call but a three-bet to 51,000. Ruiz then four-bet to 101,000 and it was back to Janiga.

Janiga went into the tank and he took his time before he pushed his last chips forward. The five-bet all-in was for 145,000 in total and Ruiz wanted to know how much he had to call.

''That's a good sign'' said Janiga who was eventually called by Ruiz.

Janiga was ahead with {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} and he dominated the {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs} of Ruiz.

The board ran out {3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Janiga was eliminated after a three-outer on the river.

Schonherr Can't Rally the Short Stack

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Timothy Schonherr, who started the day last in chips, got his remaining 17,000 in from under-the-gun, and Brian Mikesh three-bet shoved for 70,000 in the cutoff, folding out the rest of the field.

Timothy Schonherr: {a-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Brian Mikesh: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}

"I only looked at one," Schonherr said.

The {2-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop was safe for Mikesh, and while he improved to a set on the {3-Clubs} turn, Schonherr picked up a gutshot straight draw as well as the nut flush draw. He couldn't improve on the {7-Hearts} river, however, and Schonherr is one of the first to hit the rail.

Day 2 of Event #1: $500 Casino Employees Event Will Start at Noon

BRANDING
BRANDING

It's Day 2 of the 50th Annual World Series of Poker and with that, it's time for Day 2 of Event #1: $500 Casino Employees Event. Only 103 players remain out of the 686 entries that were made and they are all in the money at the start of today. All 103 players have secured a cash of at least $727 while the first-place prize stands at $62,345.

Last year the tournament attracted 566 players and that field grew to 686 this year. That resulted in a slightly bigger first-place prize and eighteen more places paid in the tournament. Jordan Hufty won the tournament last year collecting his first gold bracelet. Hufty is not playing Day 2 of this year's event and we will crown a new champion in the event.

The chip lead is in the hands of Cosmo Andoloro. He bagged over 100 big blinds when he ended the day with 650,000 at big blind 6,000 and he has the best starting position on when Day 2 kicks off at noon. Others still in the field include Planet Hollywood dealer Christopher Bowen (633,000), Thunder Valley Poker Room Manager Miguel Cardenas (512,000), Stephanie Otteson (479,000), and Talking Stick Poker Host Brad Helm (465,000). Joining them in Day 2 are WSOP Bracelet winner Jon Freidberg (360,000), Austin Roberts (342,000), who just finished in third place at the Run It Up Reno VIII Main Event, WSOP Poker Editor Isaac Hanson (249,000), and PokerNews Live Reporter Adam Lamers (116,000).

The plan is to play down to the final six today and they will play down to a winner on Day 3. The tournament will start at noon local time and they will continue in the blind level 3,000/6,000 with a big blind ante of 6,000.

PokerNews will be on the floor to report on all the action happening.
