Grapenthien Makes Good Call on Wacky 7th Street

Level 2
Matt Grapenthien
Matt Grapenthien

Stud

After Brandon Shack-Harris brought it in with the {3-Spades}, Roger Caviness completed with what turned out to be split queens. WSOP bracelet winner Matt Grapenthien came along with sevens in the hole, Shack-Harris got out of the way, and it was heads-up action to fourth street.

Caviness bet, Grapenthien called, and that action would repeat through sixth street. As the dealer went to give Caviness seventh street, she accidentally flipped it up. The floor was called and ruled that the card would play but that Grapenthien's last card would also be dealt face up.

Matt Grapenthien: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} / {10-Hearts}{2-Spades}{j-Hearts}{3-Clubs} / {2-Clubs}
Roger Caviness: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} / {q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} / {2-Hearts}

Caviness bet one last time showing four hearts and Grapenthien thought for a bit before calling with two pair, which was good.

"I don't make that call," Caviness said.

"I don't think I do either," Shack-Harris added. "Nice call."

Savage on the Other Side of the Felt

Level 3

Limit Hold'em

Famed tournament director Matt Savage, who more than once has been shortlisted for the Poker Hall of Fame, is taking a break from his directing responsibilities and put on his player cap.

In a recent hand, Savage raised to 400 under the gun and was called by Simeon Myer in middle position and Ken Bruno in the big blind.

Bruno checked the {6-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop, Savage bet 200, and Myer got out of the way. Bruno made the call and then checked for the second time on the {k-Spades}. Savage bet again, this time 400, and it did the trick as Bruno sent his hand to the muck.

Loube Looks to Rebuild

Level 3

Limit Hold'em

Steven Loube raised to 400 from middle position only to have Wing Wong three-bet to 600 from the small blind. Loube called and then called a bet of 200 on the {q-Spades}{k-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop.

Wong bet 400 on the {9-Hearts} turn and Loube wasted little time in raising him to 800. Wong didn't seem happy about it and chucked his cards to the muck. Loube then showed just the {7-Hearts}.

Despite winning that hand, Loube has been off to a rough start on Day 1 as evidenced by his half starting stack.

Stockfish Fires On All Streets

Level 3

Limit Hold'em

After a player opened in late position, Jason Stockfish made it two bets and his opponent obliged. The dealer spread {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} out on the flop and Stockfish received a check-call by his opponent.

A {5-Spades} fell, the late position opponent tapped, Stockfish pushed in a bet and his opponent called to see the {10-Clubs} river card. Again action was checked to Stockfish, and again he quickly fired in a bet.

This time his opponent let go of their hand, sending the pot to Stockfish after betting on every street.

Tracy Gets Paid on the River

Level 3

Limit Hold'em

Ian Feller raised to 400 from middle position and Bill Tracy called from the small blind. Maureen Feduniak came along from the big and it was three-way action to the {3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts} flop.

Two checks saw Feller bet 200 and only Tracy called to see the {5-Diamonds} turn, which both players checked.

When the {j-Spades} completed the board on the river, Tracy bet 400 and Feller called. Tracy rolled over the {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for jacks and fives, and it was good as Feller shook his head and tossed his hand to the muck.

Level 3
Felipe Ramos
Felipe Ramos

Stud Hi-Lo

Felipe Ramos: {x-}{x-} / {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} / {x-}
Keely Anders: {x-}{x-} / {3-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} (folded on fifth)
Raymond Griffiths: {x-}{x-} / {9-Clubs}{10-Spades}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} / {x-}

Felipe Ramos had two callers in Kelly Anders and Raymond Griffiths after completing to 500. He fired all the way to fifth street before Anders ducked out and he was now heads up with Griffiths who took over on sixth, Ramos called. Griffiths took another shot on seventh and was quickly raised by Ramos, Griffiths just as quickly called and the two turned over their hole cards.

Griffiths tabled {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, giving him three tens and Ramos showed {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for a seven low, splitting up the pot.

Racener Starts to Climb Back

Level 3
John Racener
John Racener

Omaha Hi-Lo

James Brundige made it 400 from middle position, three called the raise, John Racener included. After a {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop flipped over on the table, Brundige pushed in a bet that again had three callers.

The dealer made the low possible when the {4-Hearts} landed as a turn card. Brundige stuck to his guns, firing another bullet and found a fold from one opponent, Racener and one other stuck around to see the {k-Clubs} river.

Brundige pushed in a bet and both of his opponents called, all three tabled their hands. Brundige showed {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds} for a pair of queens, Racener tabled {a-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for the nut low and the third player in the pot turned over {a-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, giving them two pair and the high hand, splitting the pot with Racener.
