David Halpern Looks To Claim Second WSOP Title At Event #30: $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha

Welcome to Day 3 of Event #30: $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha . After a field of 309 players returned for Day 2 action from a starting field of 1,526, only 58 players remain. Those players are guaranteed to take home at least $3,472, but they're all playing to add a coveted WSOP bracelet their accomplishments along with the first-place prize of $236,673.

Leading the way into Day 3 is chip leader is Gary Bolden (1,700,000) who rocketed up the leaderboard in the last few levels of play of Day 2. Others with healthy stacks of over a million chips who will be eying their first WSOP gold behind Bolden include Gregory Donatelli (1,563,000), Anton Morgenstern (1,350,000),Erik Wilcke (1,332,000), Ryan Goindoo (1,211,000), Luis Zedan (1,208,000), and Dan Martin (1,000,000).

Out of the 58 remaining players, there is only one person looking to claim their second WSOP bracelet and that is David Halpern. Halpern, who is an attorney that specializes in commercial law and business litigation, has enjoyed success in poker dating back to 1994 when collected his first cash for $2,700. Perhaps his best performance came in 2009, when he claimed his first WSOP bracelet in Event #53: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better taking home $159,390. Halpern will be looking to add a second WSOP bracelet today.

Cards will be in the air at 12 p.m. local time and action will pick up at the start of Level 21 where blinds will be 8,000/16,000 with each level lasting 60 minutes. Players will get a 15-minute break every two levels along with a 60-minute dinner break after the 26th level which will be approximately 6.30 p.m. The remaining 58 players are scheduled to play down until there is a newly crowned WSOP bracelet winner.

Schock was out-flopped by Tekle who landed top two-pair after the dealer burned one and dealt {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} onto the felt, while Schock flopped the gutter-ball straight draw.

The {a-Spades} on the turn gave Tekle a better two-pair and Schock was still alive drawing to a ten.

Tekle's hand improved once again after the {k-Diamonds} fell on the river, however, giving him kings full of aces and Schock was eliminated from the tournament.

Halpern and Kefaliakos Fall to Deutsch

Nicholas Kefaliakos opened to 105,000 from early position and David Halpern called in middle position. Alexander Deutsch was in the big blind when he announced pot and pushed in 435,000.

Kefaliakos called the bet and Halpern pushed in his total stack of 415,000. The flop came down {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades}, Deutsch moved all in and Kefaliakos called for his remaining 35,000, players turned over their hands.

Kefaliakos turned over {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{4-Clubs} for ace-high, Halpern tabled {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for top pair and a straight draw. Deutsch showed {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, giving him two pair and the current best hand.

The dealer burned and turned a {7-Diamonds} and Deutsch now filled up. An {8-Hearts} river card changed nothing as Deutsch had his opponents drawing dead and scooped in the pot with his full house, eliminating two opponents.

The board ran out {7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, failing to hit Morgenstern as he was eliminated by the set of Zedan who now has one of the biggest stacks in the field.
