Kroon Can't Fade Kite

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante

Walan Kite and deep-stacked Mark Kroon are going back and forth with some friendly banter at their Amazon Room table, and Kroon is near the top of the chip leaderboard despite being on the wrong end of a bit of turn and river magic for Kite.

Kroon, on the cutoff, bet 1600 into Kite on the small blind, with the flop reading {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Kite called, and the turn came the {k-Spades}. The action checked through to the river, where Kite fired off a value bet and got the call from Kroon.

Kite turned over {k-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for a runner-runner full house, and Kroon's {10-Spades}{9-Spades} was no good.

Chip Leaders from Early Levels Still in Good Shape

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante

Derrick Rees and Michael Mischkot have kept hold of early-boosted stacks through levels 5 and 6.

Barry Greenstein, over in the comparatively petite Miranda Room, has been keeping afloat on or around the 20,000 mark, just recently taking a small pot from two opponents (one in and one out of position) by betting 2,000 on a {9-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop.

Antoine 'TNT' Nasr, with more than three times his starting stack pre dinner break was noticed regaling his table with a rap of his own creation, something that may be a first in a Seniors event.

Cards Return To Air

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante

The 3,350 players returning from dinner break are back at the tables to play through four more levels of Day 1. Late registration remains open until the end of Level 8.

Weissman Makes the Most of Position

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante

Wendy Weissman just took down a four-way pot of over 14,000 to increase her stack to over 110,000. Preflop there was a mid-position raise to 1,400, called by Weissman and then both blinds. The quadruple check on the {a-Spades}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop was followed by a bet on the {j-Spades} turn by the original raiser. Now no one felt like folding: all players put another 2,300 into the pot. The river brought the {8-Hearts} and there were three checks to Weissman, who bet 7,500. With little hesitation her opponents folded and she took the pot without showdown.

Two Main Event Champs, Same Table

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante

Tom McEvoy, 1983 WSOP Main Event champion, is seated at the same table as Joe Hachem, the 2005 Main Event champ. The chances of a pairing like this among a field of 3,300 players are unlikely, and as of the moment it's Hachem that stands the better chance of sticking around for awhile in this event.

McEvoy recently lost some ground, folding to an opponent that forced McEvoy to make a decision for all of his chips on a {3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop.

Flack Finds the Action

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante

Six-time WSOP bracelet winner Layne Flack is talking it up and mixing it up with his opponents, chipping up to 48,000 after winning consecutive pots.

The first pot saw Flack open to 1,200 in early position and get a call on the big blind. The flop came {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, Flack fired a 1,700 continuation bet and got the fold.

Flack opened for 1,400 from under the gun on the very next hand, and got three-bet to 4300 by a player in middle position. The action folded back around to Flack, who four-bet and got the fold. Flack showed his opponent {9-}{9-}.

Enright Plays Both Blinds

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Barbara Enright
Barbara Enright

Barbara Enright played heads up pots from both the big and small blind in succession, winning the first and losing the second. Unfortunately for her, the first was a small pot, given up by the small blind on the turn of a {7-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{k-Hearts} board to her bet of 4,000, while the second was considerably larger.

Enright raised to 4,000 when it folded to her on the small blind; the big blind called. Enright proceeded to check, then snap-call the bets her opponent made on the flop ({3-Spades}{a-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, 4,000) and turn ({2-Hearts}, 6,000). There was a very slightly longer pause between her check and call of the 10,000 her opponent threw in on the river ({10-Spades}). He showed her {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for two pair; she said, "River!" while tapping the table, but smiling all the while.
