Daniel Cates
Daniel Cates

Pot-Limit Omaha

Phil Galfond raised to 3,500 from the hijack, and was called by John Esposito in the small blind, as well as Daniel Cates in the big blind.

All three players checked through the {9-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop, and Esposito checked the {k-Hearts} turn. Cates bet 3,500, and only Galfond called.

Cates bet 12,000 after the {2-Clubs} fell on the river, and Galfond called again, only to muck after Cates showed {k-Spades}{q-Spades}{j-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for a full house.

Thuritz Wins Battle of Weak Boards

Level 6 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

Razz

Nobody had a particularly good-looking board on fifth in a three-way pot between Mikael Thuritz, Luke Schwartz and Ray Dehkharghani.

Mikael Thuritz: {x-}{x-}/{7-}{j-}{10-}
Luke Schwartz: {x-}{x-}/{6-}{5-}{q-}
Ray Dehkharghani: {x-}{x-}/{4-}{9-}{4-}

Schwartz bet, Dehkharghani folded and Thuritz called. Schwartz caught the {j-} and Thuritz the {k-} so it stayed ugly with Schwartz betting and Thuritz calling. Both players checked the end and Thuritz said he had a ten.

Schwartz indicated it was good and Thuritz showed {8-}{5-}{4-}. Schwartz showed a {5-} and mucked.

"Razz is brutal," he said.

2-7 Triple Draw

After the first draw where all three players pitched two, Jake Schwartz checked from the big blind, and Jared Bleznick bet from the hijack. Adam Friedman raised on the button, Schwartz called, and Bleznick made it three bets. Friedman made it four bets, and both Schwartz and Bleznick called.

Schwartz and Bleznick each took a card on the second draw, while Friedman patted. Action checked to Friedman, who bet, and only Bleznick called. Bleznick drew one on the final draw, while Friedman patted again. Bleznick check-folded to a bet from Friedman.

"Jungleman" Sinking

Level 5 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante
Daniel Cates
Daniel Cates

Stud

John Esposito bet sixth and seventh sporting a paired board against Dan Cates, who raised on the end.

John Esposito: {x-}{x-}/{7-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{q-Clubs}/{x-}
Dan Cates: {x-}{x-}/{q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{9-Spades}{4-Hearts}/{x-}

Esposito thought awhile and flicked in a calling chip. Cates announced a straight and showed {10-}{8-} but Esposito had it beat with {7-Spades}{a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} for sevens full. After the hand, Esposito said he had check-raised earlier in the hand and bet the remaining streets, only for Cates to pop him on the river.

"What were you thinking?" someone asked Cates.

"I was thinking there was an ace dead and he probably didn't have a full house," Cates responded.
