Doshi Bags Chip Lead Among Leaderboard of Notables on Day 1 of Event #85: $3,000 Pot-LImit Omaha 6-Handed

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
Anton Morgenstern

After 10 one-hour levels of play, Day 1 of Event #85: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handed is officially complete. The Amazon Room inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino was nothing short of electric all day with numerous other final tables occurring including Day 7 of the Main Event.

Though today was only Day 1, the tournament contributed significantly to the action and excitement in the room as it filled up the purple section of the Amazon room and spilled into orange for a while as a field of 835 entries played down to just 173.

When the dust settled, it was Paresh Doshi that bagged the chip lead with a massive stack of 359,300. He was far and away the chip leader, though he enjoys the company of a leaderboard full of notables. Keith Lehr (239,400), Anton Morgenstern (233,000), Martin Zamani (231,700), David Williams (211,600), and Leif Force (211,000) all bagged north of 200,000 at the end of the day and will look to build on that figure tomorrow.

An interesting hand occurred the last hand of the night when 888poker Ambassador Vivian Saliba hit a royal flush against a set and doubled up, finishing the night with a stack of 125,800. Other notables to advance to Day 2 include Max Silver (199,700), Joseph Cheong (151,500), Bryce Yockey (109,700), and Ben Yu (21,900).

Some players who were not as fortunate to make it to the end of the day included Joe Hachem, Alex Foxen, Cliff Josephy, Dan Zack, and Yuri Dzivielevski, who registered after finishing in 28th place in the Main Event for a payday of $261,430 just hours before.

Day 2 continues Saturday at 2 p.m. local time with blinds of 800/1,600. Ten more one-hour levels are on the docket with 15-minute breaks at the completion of each level and a one-hour dinner break after the sixth hour of play. Keep your eyes peeled as PokerNews provides coverage throughout the homestretch of the 2019 World Series of Poker.

"Right Back With 20K in Chips"

Level 8 : 400/800, 0 ante

Daniel Negreanu (pictured in another tournament)

Daniel Negreanu was just eliminated from the tournament and overheard saying, "(I'll be) right back with 20k in chips!"

"Get that on the blog," Brian Hastings said from an adjacent table. "Daniel Negreanu dusts off his first buy-in."

"And I doubled up, too!" Negreanu added as he walked off, presumably right back to the cage to buy in again.

Meanwhile, Tim Rutherford was in the process of raking in his newly collected chips. When asked, he was gracious enough to provide information on the hand.

He said that Negreanu had raised to 2,000 and he three-bet to 6,500. Negreanu called and the flop came {k-}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} A series of bets and raises got all the chips in and the two tabled their hands.

Rutherford had {a-Diamonds}{q-}{6-}{3-Diamonds} and Negreanu had worse diamonds. The turn brought the {k-Diamonds} to give Rutherford the nut flush and Negreanu was drawing dead, ending his tournament life for bullet number one.

Joe Hachem was last recorded as having a short stack and was recently eliminated by Adi Aizin. As recounted by Yueqi Zhu, Hachem was in the small blind with {k-Spades}{k-}{x-Spades}{x-}. His opponent, Adi Aizin, was in the big blind with {a-Spades}{q-}{x-}{x-} with ace-high spades to Hachem's king-high spades. The flop came out {8-Spades}{8-}{3-Spades} and both players proceeded to turn the nut- and second-nut flushes. When all was said and done, Hachem was eliminated and the pot was being sent Aizin's way.

"He Got Robbed" - Foxen Eliminated by Mizrachi

Level 7 : 300/600, 0 ante
Alex Foxen (pictured in another event)
Alex Foxen (pictured in another event)

Alex Foxen was seen exiting the tournament area and when inquired about it, Jeff Madsen and Robert Mizrachi both emphatically stated, "he got robbed!" They later said it wasn't by way of suck out and that it was a very fun and interesting hand that led to Foxen's departure.

Three players limped in preflop before Mizrachi raised 700 on top of the limp. Action went four ways to the flop {a-}{9-}{5-}-rainbow and everybody checked.

On the turn {j-Hearts}, a player bet 4,000 and Foxen called. Madsen got out of the way and Mizrachi raised to 21,000. The player who bet 4,000 folded and Foxen quickly committed the rest of his chips, which Mizrachi called.

Alex Foxen: {k-}{j-}{j-}{4-}
Robert Mizrachi: {a-}{a-}{q-}{10-}

Foxen hit the turn to make a set of jacks only to find himself at risk for his tournament life against Mizrachi's flopped top set of aces. He was unable to fill up on the river and Mizrachi now finds himself with a six-figure stack.

Hendee Hits on the River

Level 6 : 300/500, 0 ante
Paul Hendee
Paul Hendee

Action was joined as the cards were being run out and Paul Hendee and Gabriel Andrade were happy to provide commentary to recount the hand.

According to Andrade, he raised to 1,000 on the button and the small blind called. Hendee three-bet to 2,000 from the big blind and Andrade called. The small blind then shoved for around 8,000. Hendee called and Andrade chose to let the two of them duke it out.

Paul Hendee: {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Small blind: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}

The board ran out {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{k-Spades} giving Hendee kings up on the river to beat his opponent's sevens up and send him to the rail. With the pot, Hendee now finds himself as the likely chip leader in the tournament nearing the end of Level 6.

Tsang Doubles with Quads

Level 6 : 300/500, 0 ante
Anson Tsang
Anson Tsang

Anson Tsang raised to 1,300 in the hijack and the player on the button three-bet to 3,300. Action folded back to Tsang, and he called as the flop landed {9-Clubs}{a-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

Tsang checked, and the button bet pot of 7,400. Tsang announced he was all in for 11,200, and his opponent called having Tsang covered by just 300.

Tsang: {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Tsang was at risk with his set against his opponent's flush draw, but when the {9-Spades} landed on the turn to give Tsang quads, he could breath a sigh of relief. The river landed the meaningless {4-Clubs}, and Tsang scooped the double with his quads.

Cliff Josephy (pictured in another event)

Cliff Josephy was just seen walking away from the table and exiting the Amazon room. Ray Henson was the one who knocked him out and was kind enough to recount the hand history.

Henson said he raised {j-}{10-}{8-}{5-} and Josephy called along with three other players, taking action five ways to a flop of {j-}{8-}{5-}. Henson bet and Josephy shoved. Action folded back to Henson and he made the call.

Josephy had {8-}{7-}{5-}{4-} and was behind Henson's top two. The turn and river were dust and Josephy was sent to the rail.
