Dinner Break

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Denise Pratt

The clock has struck the 8 p.m. hour and the remaining players have rushed out of the Amazon and Pavillion rooms for a 90-minute dinner break. When they return, there will still be roughly 20 minutes left in this level with one more level to go before the end of the night. Here is what took place leading up to the dinner break:

Rory Brown Loses a Race

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Rory Brown raised to 4,000 from the hijack, the player on the button reraised all in for 42,500 and Brown called with {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, racing with his opponent's {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}.

The board came down {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades}{5-Clubs}, giving Brown's opponent queens and jacks to double up.

Depa Climbing

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

The player on the button was all in for about 31,000 against Jonathan Depa from middle position.

Opponent: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Jonathan Depa: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{2-Spades} and Depa stayed ahead, sending his opponent to the rail.

Kihara's Queens Win

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Naoya Kihara checked from under the gun on {5-Clubs}{k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. His opponent on the button bet 7,000 into a pot of around 20,000. Kihara took some thinking time, double-checked his cards, then called.

"Ace-high," Kihara's opponent announced.

Kihara opened {q-}{q-} and took it down. A player across the table guessed that Kihara was thinking of raising and he smiled and admitted that may have been the case.

Pre Dinner Counts from Amazon

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Leng Shows the Big Bluff

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Ryan Leng
Ryan Leng

On a flop of {6-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Diamonds} there was roughly 22,000 already brewed in the pot, Ryan Leng check-raised his opponents' 7,100 to 35,000 and he called.

The {5-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Leng wasted no time announcing he was all-in. Leng had approximately 153,000 behind and his opponent had slightly left. His opponent muttered something along the lines of "any other card," as he mucked his hand.

Leng's neighbor begged him to show, and Leng obliged and showed {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for ace-high.

Newland's Flush Gets Some River Value

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Vincent Newland bet 12,000 into a pot of 16,000 on a {j-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} board from under the gun, and his opponent next to act went into the tank. After about ninety seconds, Newland's opponent announced a call, but his {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} would be sent to the muck after Newland showed his {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a rivered runner-runner flush.

Set For Weissman

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Joey Weissman raised from under the gun and received two callers before the flop fell {q-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}.

The player in the big blind checked, as did Weissman before the final player bet 4,000 from middle position. Only Weissman called, and they went heads-up to the {8-Diamonds} turn.

Both players checked, and when the {k-Hearts} hit the river, Weissman checked for the third time. The American saw his opponent check behind to a showdown and Weissman tabled {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} for a set, and took down the pot.

Kaplan Wins Flip to Bust Chiu

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Jordan Kaplan
Jordan Kaplan

Two near-identical shorter stacks clashed on the main feature table. Jordan Kaplan raised to 3,500 first to act and Sai Chiu jammed the big blind for 53,700, which Kaplan called.

Sai Chiu: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Jordan Kaplan: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

Chiu picked up more outs on the {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} flop, but the {5-Hearts} turn and {4-Spades} river brought no help for Chiu.
