Konnikova Doubles Through Grapenthien

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante

Maria Konnikova at the 2019 WSOP

The board came down {k-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{a-Clubs} and with 6,400 in the middle, Maria Konnikova bet 4,500 after Matt Grapenthien had checked.

Grapenthien began to think, and after a minute passed, he called.

The {k-Clubs} hit the river, and Grapenthien moved all in. Konnikova was just covered but called only five seconds later.

Grapenthien tabled {k-Spades}{10-Spades} for trips, but it was no good against the flush held by Konnikova with {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

Konnikova moved back up to 91,000, having started the day over 100,000, with Grapenthien left on just 4,700.

Imsirovic Bombs the River

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante

Larry Jaffee opened to 2,000 from the hijack and Ali Imsirovic called from the small blind. The flop came {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and both players checked to the {j-Clubs} on the turn.

Imsirovic and Jaffee both tapped the table again and the {a-Diamonds} completed the board. Imsirovic checked for the third time and Jaffee dropped in a bet of 4,200. Imsirovic stuck in a large check-raise and Jaffee instantly threw his cards away.

Soto Shows the Bluff

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante

In a three-bet pot, Christian Soto and Donald Landwirth were heads-up on a flop of {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Soto checked to Landwirth who fired in a bet of 7,000 into a pot of around 15,000. Soto check-raised to 39,000, leaving himself with just 1,000 behind.

Landwirth only had 35,000 chips still in front of him and he struggled to make a decision. After nearly five minutes in the tank, the clock was finally called. As Landwirth's time ticked down, he eventually folded his hand. Soto flashed {a-Spades}{q-Spades} for just ace-high and was awarded the pot.

Mackey Misses a Chip

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante

There was around 18,000 in the pot on a board of {2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Spades} and the player in the big blind bet 7,000. James Mackey raised to 40,000 and after about a minute, his opponent folded.

While he was thinking about his action in the hand, the player in the big blind was shuffling his remaining chips. After folding, Mackey realized there was a green, T$25,000 chip belonging to his opponent had that he had not seen when making the raise. Mackey asked politely if he could keep that separate, as his raise in the previous hand had been based on having not seen the large denomination chip, meaning that Mackey thought he was putting his opponent to the test for his tournament life.

Either way, the hand resulted in Mackey taking down the pot right then and there without a showdown.

Henson Can't KO Fomine

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante
Ray Henson
Ray Henson

A player raised to 1,800 from middle position, and Ray Henson called next to act. Vladimir Fomine three-bet shoved for 15,200 on the button, and action folded back to Henson, who shrugged, then called.

Vladimir Fomine: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Ray Henson: {7-Spades}{6-Spades}

Fomine's queens took a bigger lead on the {5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{j-Spades} flop, leaving Henson drawing to running cards to knock out Fomine. The {10-Hearts} turn left Henson drawing dead to the {8-Hearts} river, and Fomine doubled up.

Soyza Moves Up

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante
Michael Soyza
Michael Soyza

Michael Soyza has started well into Day 2c and built a solid profit to his stack already. In the latest hand, he took on Andres Korn, who defended the big blind and check-called two barrels on the {5-Spades}{4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} board. The second bet on the turn was for 7,000 and both them opted to check the river.

Korn turned over {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} and Soyza had that beat with {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for tens and fours.
