Phil Ivey Strikes Out of WSOP Main Event Day 1c in Less Than an Hour
Day 1c of the 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event is a big one. In fact, the turnout is so big that all other events – such as daily deepstacks, satellites, etc. – have been canceled to make room for the masses.
Players are being seated up at the El Burro tables, in Rio’s Main Poker Room, and even inside the abandoned bowling turned storage room that hasn’t been used since the Big 50. What’s more, no one is immune from being seated in the outskirt tables. Even 10-time bracelet winner Phil Ivey was relegated to the bowling alley overflow room, though not for long.
In Level 1 (100/200/200), Ivey was already below starting with around 25,000 in chips at the start of a hand. Those remaining chips went to Jeffrey Chang in the aftermath of a three-way pot.
Chang opened to 500 from early position, Hirotaka Nakanishi three-bet on his immediate left, and Ivey cold called the three-bet from the button. Chang came along and the flop came down 9♥7♠10♠.
Chang checked, Nakanishi bet 1,600 and Ivey called. Chang then put in the check-raise to 6,500, Nakanishi called, and Ivey went all in over the top for his last 17,500.
Chang shoved the rest of his stack, and Nakanishi got out of the way.

Chang was a 67 percent favorite with top two against Ivey's nut flush draw. The J♣ turn was no help to Ivey and neither was the 3♥ river.
Just like that Ivey’s run in the 2019 WSOP Main Event came to a quick and unexpected end.
